Television terror Lily has started reacting to stuff on the t.v. We can all be sitting quietly watching a program and all of a sudden she jumps up barking and growling at the screen. The first time it happened she was lying on my lap with Molly i was watching s thriller when the stalker was sneaking down the stairs to the little boy, I nearly jumped out of my skin. She has done it when people are running, cars are chasing or even when there is creepy music. My husband thinks its hilarious but I can't enjoy my program's now. Does anone else's dog react to the t. V. ? It is quite funny she can be sound asleep one minute then the next like the hound of the Baskervilles lol |
Mine barks when they hear TV dogs :) they are very alert little babies |
Georgie has always done this. We can't watch any shows or movies with dogs in them or he will bark. One time were watching the Westminster Dog show and he was going crazy he even try to look around the TV to see where the dogs were trotting off to LOL. He usually calms down after his initial reaction but we have decided to never watch Animal Planet in our house;) |
Mine will do it if they hear a dog bark on tv or they hear a doorbell ringing on tv. A couple of yrs ago there was a comercial with the doorbell ringing that they would show on tv freqently and it drove them nuts |
Yes, mine does that also.. |
Khloe used to freak out when there were animals on the screen. We just slowly started conditioning her to not do it. We would praise her when we noticed that she saw an animal, but wasn't barking... and slowly but surely, she didn't bark at the tv anymore. Good luck! It took us over a year, but she's pretty good now, and doesn't go behind the tv to try to find the animals :p |
CoversMom is right. If it annoys you or disrupts your family's pleasure when watching TV. You can retrain and desensitize your Yorkie. I helps if you can get some animal movies to play on the TV. (We have a library of dog shows, dog training, and Disney movies like Ol' Yeller. ) It may take a week end or two, to break the reaction cycle. We sit on the sofa and start the movie. When the Dog barks we give the cue 'Enough' and praise if they are quiet, with the cue 'Good Quiet' and pets. You can also use tiny treats if your dog is food motivated. With some very reactive dogs we have to start with the sound off or very low. Every one has to work on this and use the same cues. It will only confuse the dog, if Mom says enough, Dad says shut up, Grandma says, Oh do be quiet and the children laugh at the dog. We often have to retrain pups to live quietly with the sweeper, dishwasher, dryer and animals on TV. It is a common problem and persistence will work. |

Corky barks at doorbells on tv, and kids yelling. |
