I am new Just adopted my Yorkie on Friday and tips anyone can give me would be great I have always had Golden retrievers and German Shepards. Small dogs are very different!! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. :) Congratulations on the new addition to your family! I agree, small dogs are different. Advice: 1. Post lots of pictures here. :D 2. Start training now! Expose your little one to as much as possible, early as possible -- while being safe (get all the necessary vaccinations first). 3. Read the "stickies" at the top of each forum here and in the YT library. 4. Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions. 5. Enjoy! |
I am having a lot of trouble with him just starting today. He turned a year old on 4/12 and he is fighting with my goldens like really attacking them and drawing blood how do you correct that behavior? |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
Welcome Welcome to YT. The Library has wonderful articles in it for New Puppy Parents and just a whole lot of info on everything Yorkie. Post pics of your new dog -- we do love pics here. |
hmmm... just interrupted a cat chase by my two Yorkies who know better. Just when I think I have a handle on it, I realize they are ANIMALS (perish the thought) and I am the human who sort of provides the exoskeleton under which we all live. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk... it's a wonderful community! |
Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk. The best advice I got for housebreaking was to praise the success and ignore the accidents. |
Hi welcome to YT. :D |
Thanks everyone this looks like a great group!! Working on the basics with him, he is suddenly not fond of my bigger dogs:( hope everyone settles down soon. Maybe when he gets neutered in a month!! |
Welcome and congratulations. I hope the neutering and adjusting helps him settle down. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk!:) |
Welcome. Neutering should definitely help. Good luck.:) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk!! I'm sure he will calm down a bit once he's neutered. Are your goldens spayed/neutered as well? |
Yeah, I think since he's already a year old, he's just making sure he's the head dog in a brand new environment. I'd keep them separated for a couple of days, and introduce them slowly. Little dogs forget they're so little and will attack bigger dogs readily. Just make sure he's comfortable with his new home, and he'll be okay in a week! |
