Growing His Coat Hiya! I should hopefully be getting my first yorkie this week (all going to plan!). He is an older dog, and has suffered from a pretty bad hair cut! How long do you think it will take until he has more of his yorkie type look back? He looks more like a shaggy border terrier now, so its not short-short, but he is lacking any actual length. Particularly around his mouth. I will introduce myself properly if he comes home with me on Tuesday! All of your pics are making me excited though! |
I hope you get him! It depends on how fast their coats grow. I had Cali cut shorter, puppy cut and it took about 6 months to get close to her original long coat. I cut her again, but I think another 3-4 months she would have been back to her long coat |
Well, depending on how short (nearly shaved)... it could take MONTHS to get it back and it may not grow back perfectly. The mouth and eye area (specifically on my dog) tend to grow the quickest. However, just love your little man no matter his coat-- he's going to be a beauty! |
1 Attachment(s) Thanks! At least that's a rough guide for me to aim for! Here is a picture of him (but he isn't mine yet....so not 100% sure how up to date this picture is) What do you think? |
He looks very sweet. Growing out hair can take months. I have had Yorkies that grow out a cut in a few months, and others who never really get that long flowing hair look. Thank You for opening your heart and your home. |
He is so cute! I don't know how long you want his coat to be but it will take several weeks for him to grow more coat. Make sure you feed him a good healthy food. Sometimes a supplement of Omega3 or Coconut oil will help to create a healthy skin and coat. Hope all goes well with your adoption process. |
From his coat, it doesn't look like he will have long, straight hair. He will probably have some curly, silky hair. In that case, most people whose Yorkies are like this, keep them short. |
He looks good to me! I like the shorter cuts unless you can grow it and really keep up with it. If you grow it and don't spend the time, he will still look shaggy. Even with shorter hair they can look shaggy if you don't brush them. I tend to cut Maggie when she gets shaggy. I think her long hair makes her look short and fat (what girl wants that!). I never let it get long enough to see if it would lay down flat and when it is starting to get longer it seems to grow OUT first. If I could get past that stage maybe it would grow long and lay down... If I had the $ I would get her washed and dried to see how longer flat hair looks (she won't let me dry her), but since it wouldn't stay that way more than a week there is no point to spend the $. She gets cut every 6-8 weeks, and that is what most of my album pics are...haircut days! Someday I will post a pic of BEFORE grooming to show what I mean by looking fat. |
Thanks! I think I just want the longer hair on his face, and his nose, rather than that long silky show style hair all over his body. I will have to wait and see!!! Waiting is the hard part! |
Does your boy have a name. I'm hoping the face hair grows quick cause my girls went to the groomer last week and half of Mollys face looks shaved. Keep us up to date on things, hope it all goes smoothly. |
Awhhhhhh! Hope you get him. Love his coloring. Beautiful pup.:animal-pa |
Thank you! Fingers crossed for tomorrow! If he arrives home safe and sound, I will do a thread with name and pics! |
Keeping my fingers crossed. |
We will be waiting for your post :) |
Thanks for the warm welcome! |
