Bum Rubbing My 5 month old puppy has been dragging his bum, only a few times, across the carpet. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Im sure that he has been treated for worms, but part of me still has to wonder................... He also, weirdly enough, threw-up this morning. It was very strange, he then acted normal... eating and all. Also, any tips on how to stop him from being an escape artist? He is now able to jump/climb out of his play pen!!! HELP! He is my first dog and I am very green!!! |
:wavey: welcome to YT! When a dog rubs it's bum it usually means their anal glands need to be expressed. Some dogs do this on their own and some need help from a vet or groomer (i don't do it myself). Has he been to the vet since you had him? Did he only throw up once? Was it food? I think most Yorkies are escape artists!:D I bought this for my dogs: Amazon.com: Pink Pet Tent Exercise Pen Playpen... It's collapsible and portable. It a top also so that your pup can't escape. What's his name? Photos? |
Sounds like his anal glands may need to be expressed. I would take him to the vet and let them express them. What kind of pen do you have him in? Does it have horizontal or vertical bars? They have pop up ones on eBay that have zip on tops you may want to look into. |
:welcome4: I agree with the above info... and that's a really neat playpen :) |
bum I guess you learn something every day. when I would see a dog drag it's but on the floor people would always tell me that the dog had worms so when I saw my bella do that I automatically assumed she had worms so does that only go for male dogs or female as well? |
Rubbing their hiney can be a symptom of worms and it can be a sign that their anal glands just need to be expressed too but sometimes it is just that they need to be cleaner there... kinda gross when you think they are wiping on your carpet  |

Have you checked his bum to be sure he doesn't have a tiny piece of dried poo stuck to it ? |
At five months possible to be anal glands but I would be a little surprised. I kind of suspect allergies. That can cause bum rubbing. It could be allergies to the food he is on, could be why he vomited. allergies can also do that and it can be puzzling because it can be intermittant vomiting or diahrea. |

I have been reading about food allergies and that is one of the symptoms. |

I noticed this morning he tried to "clean" his bum again.... Should I be wiping it every once in a while?? |
I will make sure to give his bottom a check!! His hair was cut not that long ago, unfortunately he could only get a scissor cut, so maybe that is the problem..... I have some new food maybe I should try for him... its Royal Canin... unless I should try something else? any suggestions?? Here's another question, do I need to be giving my pup wet dog food? Thanks for all of your feedback!! |

When my male rubs his bum on the carpet, it means that his anal glands are bothering him. I take him to the vet when this happens, and he always says they are super full. I would get him to the vet and have them looked at. |
