Chewing or swallowing something harmful How many of you guys had to use the drop it or leave leave it command to keep your little one from chewing or swallowing something harmful? Please share your story. |
All the time girl! He is only six months so he is into everything! We were outside and I noticed he had somehting in his mouth. Normally, I can clap my hands and say, "drop" and he will. This time, he wasn't letting go. When I reached in his mouth to pull it out, he had a death grip on it and I had to really struggle with my 3.5lbs dog to get this thing out. When I finally got it out, I realized it was POO! The worst part of the story is that it wasn't his poo.:eek::eek: |

When we're outside and ZoE comes across something nasty I don't want her touching....poo, bugs, gum on sidewalk...etc., I've always said "yucky" and she leaves it alone. The first time since I've had her that I broke a glass dish on the kitchen floor and shards went everywhere and ZoE rushed towards them, I automatically yelled "yucky" and she backed off. So "yucky" is our toward meaning don't touch it or go near it. It works for us :) |

We can say drop, but Dex won't. He loves pulling my Wife's dishtowel from the holder, He runs down the hall with it like it's a treasure. I think it's time to see if the local dog whisperer can help.. |
Mina is almost 16months old so she isnt picking up as many harmful things. If she picks something up and looks at me I can say "drop it" sometimes I just say her name and she will spit whatever it is out. The exception to this is electrical cords, the girl loves electrical cords and phone chargers that are plugged in. I am eternally making sure that no cord is showing and that I know where she is at all times. |
Just the other day, my Dexter was walking around whining and he had something in his mouth. I called him over and took it from his mouth. I trained my dogs first thing to just let go of whatever they have, or they just drop it into my hand. Well he had a GRAPE! :( My brother fed my nephew some that morning and one must have been on the floor. I was sooo upset, but thankfully disaster was averted and not only did he give it to me, but he didn't even so much as try to eat it. I think he was looking for a place to bury his 'treasure'. PHEW! |
