P.O.'d: Terrified Yorkie at Daycare I rarely am so worked up that I post but you will be angry, too, when you hear this. My fur-baby and I were shopping in a store that belongs to a well-known national chain and stopped to look at the dogs in the attached daycare. I immediately noticed this little Yorkie who is about the size of mine (less than 3 lb.) shaking and trying to hide next to the belly of a medium-sized dog with longish fur - looked like this one was acting maternal toward it. It really looked like the Yorkie was trying to make himself look small and hide as there were about 15 dogs in this one room, and some of them were LARGE dogs (big as Weimaraners/ Dobermans)!!! Never saw a dog look so unhappy. If the obvious dangers weren't enough, he could simply die from fright!! Thought this place swears they never mix dogs of different sizes - but that's not what I saw. It was all I could do to keep myself from going in there and take that poor little Yorkie out of that room (and probably get arrested). Am I over-reacting or is this as dangerous as it looked? |
|
Yes. That seems very dangerous. I have big dogs but I always supervise them when they are together. It was a major process just bringing them around one another. Even though my furbabies are best buds and love each other, I would never leave my little one unattended around my big dogs. They could accidentally squish him or toss him when playing....You are not overreacting. That would be a major concern of mine. Poor little guy. |

That is dangerous. I dont personally like doggy daycares, to me they are scary, because I just dont know what is going on at them. |

It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. I would have said something if I were there but that is just how I am when I see something so outright wrong! I don't know who has less intelligence, the people who run the doggy day care or the people who own the little dog. |

Call and say something. That is crazy. I take my Sami to a doggy daycare and they never put the little ones with even the regular little dogs. They are only with 8lbs and less dogs. |

 Called the Manager Quote:
Think I will make a practice of dropping in every so often and see if they follow through as promised. |
|
I've never boarded any of my crew but did need to visit several "cage free" facilities to hand out pet friendly events flyers, I'm not sure what the norm is but thats what I saw too- big rooms full of dogs of every size roaming around. At one place I watched a very zealous "marker" peeing on every bed and other dogs too:eek:Yes, there was an employee who saw this too and made no move to stop it or clean anything or anyone up. Not quite the same but something to consider. |

 That yorkie should have NEVER been put in with big dogs & I'm just wondering if somehow it snuck in there behind someone. I think you should def have said something to management before leaving the store. I would call & ask if that is normal practice. |
|
Poor little thing! I would've said something. So glad you called the manager. I hope this does not happen again and that the little one is ok. Bless his heart! |

Glad you saw that, did you get a photo, having had a yorkie killed by a Weim they never should mix those types of breeds with smaller dogs. I would have made a huge fit, took pictures and not left until they put the yorkie in a safe area. the more and more I hear about these chain stores I will never have Lola groomed or boarded there. At least that yorkie was smart enough to not challenge the other dogs and stay out of the way. Also their idea of small breeds would not match what we would consider small, they would probably put them with Jack Rusells Westies, Schnauzes and so forth and IMHO those dogs are to large and can also be to aggressive to mix with a 3 lb dog. |

Oh that poor baby:cry: There is NO WAY I'd ever put my girls through that and that Yorkie owner really needs to re-think this, considering it's tiny size:( I think the only daycare I'd consider is one where they had webcams set up so I could look in whenever I wanted. That tells me that they are conscientious and have nothing to hide;) I'm glad you said something!!!! Hope that next time you peek in there, that they have started doing things properly. |
|
Yes that is scary and I would have said something to management. |
|
I would have been the same. Pizzes me off that these poor owners have no idea what their poor baby is going thru when they think they are doing the right thing. Horrible. |
|
:confused::( The owners will likely not understand why their Yorkie resists going there next time, either. So sad things like this area allowed to happen. I am pretty certain I'd have video of a situation like that. |
