New member of the family Hello eveyone... I'm new here and am looking for any advice in raising a Yorkie I can find!! Living in the country, we have always had large "outside" dogs. Well a friend of a friend had a Yorkie that she needed to find a home for. My husband and I went to visit them and came home with Harley. This has been an experience. He has a lot of energy and seems to live to chase the cats and ducks. When he does, he needs a bath afterwards! After spending a crazy amount of time combing the grass and sticks out of his hair. I began looking for any short hair cut pictures. His hair isn't as long as some of the others I have seen on this site, but I feel like for the summer I need to try to trim him. Is it best to have him groomed by a professional? How fast do their hair grow back? We do have colder winters here and would hate for him to still have shorter hair when it turns cold. Harley is a larger Yorkie weighing in at 11 pounds and I would like to find a cut that will look good on him as well as keep him from getting grass and twigs tangled in his hair. He loves to be outside and I would hate to take that away from him. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks, Kathie |
i bet he would be adorable with just a puppy cut |
Hello and welcome, love the name Harley...I agree a puppy cut would be cute. Do you have some pics to share, we love pics? |
Welcome . Bless you for giving this little guy a home. He is a cutie |
That is one of the reasons I keep Callie in a puppy cut because I hate picking stuff out of her hair and she loves to be outside. My vet got a groomer and that's who I use I just feel better someone else doing it because I am terrified of hurting Callie and my moms yorkie rescue Sammy doesn't like getting groomed but seems to the let the groomer do it so we take them together and they get to stay together the whole time. Yorkies don't have an under coat like most other breeds so even if his hair is long in the winter you are still probably going to have to buy him a jacket and a few sweaters. It make take you trying a few different things to know what you like on him. Can we see pics? And congrats on your yorkie. |
Harley 2 Attachment(s) Thank you for the suggestions! I think I will look for a groomer and hope they know what a puppy cut looks like. Sounds like that might be my answer to spending too much time giving him his bath. I have already gotten him a coat that works well when it rains and we found a sweater for the colder months. My husband wasn't too sure of the color (I'll show you a picture) but the lady at the pet store called it "Harley Davidson" orange... He seems to know how it goes on and doesn't fuss with it. We lost my Cooper a Lab/Husky mix last August. Had him for 14 years. It was very hard not to go look for him in the yard!! Harley has helped to fill the void I had in my life. Life is good again... Take care everyone, and thanks again! |
:welcome4: what a wonderful blessing that you and Harley found each other ;) |
