Gluing Ears? I was visiting with a lady today and she told me that her breeder said not to tape her puppies ears but to use a dot of super glue to hold them folded and erect for a few days. Anyone heard of this one???? |
I do not think glue should be on skin and I think it's a very bad idea. |
I had never heard of it. I do know when I had back surgery they went thru my neck in front. They used a type of glue instead of stitches to seal the incision. Maybe there is a special kind I dont know. |
Glue is used to close surgical incisions, but I would never use it on a pup to keep the ears up. Seems like that would be risky if the litter of pups were playing as pups do. |
Also, seems like you would be gluing the ears to the back of the head. I wouldn't do it. |
I don't have to worry about Kyra's they have been up since the first time I saw her I had just never heard of this before. |

Ladies before I get in trouble I was just asking because I was told this lol was not by any means suggesting anyone do it. I wouldnt even know where to put glue.:p |
That glue that was used was a fabric glue, NOT super glue....and someone else used eyelash adhesive....I can handle either of those two adhesives....but NOT super glue!!!! Please tell that lady you were visiting with the correct stuff to use...she needs to tell her breeder too! |
I did and she is going to. She said she may of not understood her breeder is going to check with her tomorrow. |
When ears are cropped in some breeds a surgical glue is also applied to properly form the ears together at the tip & under the bandages. This is separate from the same glue also used on the incision parts under a liquid band-aid. Even in this scenario many vets and breeders are against this application. So perhaps this stemmed from this-but I'd assume anyone with good sense would be against it. It's totally not the same to help ears stay erect with taping vs a surgical cropping methodology. |
I just used a stapler, it worked great.... |

:sidesplt: Not that I'd use super glue, but if you've ever had a tube of it 'explode' in your hand you'll find out that a bit of acetone will remove it pretty easily, and it will come off by itself from the skin oils. Also soaking in water...aka doing the dishes...will cause it to peel but is not appropriate for Yorkie ears. I am aware of people using it on themselves for minor cuts instead of a bandaid because it stays on better. I am not understanding why you'd use a drop of glue and fold the ear together, though. What does folding the ear do? |

You just have an ill faded sense of humor as I do right? The use of staples in ear cropping is no longer recommended it is quite outdated as it is very cruel...not to mention we are talking Yorkies here and of course they should not be actually cropped but encouraged to become erect or stay thus. |
Are all Yorkies ears suppose to stand up? Ryder's doesn't.. He's 11 weeks. |

however not every Yorkie perfectly conforms to the standard thus we have many variations of them and many non show or breeding quality dogs that make wonderful pets. |
I saw a video on YouTube that used fabric glue to attach some paper to the inside of the ear to keep them upright. I have never seen anyone suggest super glue. |
fabric glue & paper...even better <--total sarcasm, that's craziness to use random household items as breeder tools or medical supplies. At this point I'd suggest anyone with any real questions on how to keep ears erect with self adhesive band-aids and ear forms to ask a qualified breeder of their method. |
