Hello All! First I'd like to say thank you for the warm greetings on my wall. :) I'm a happily married, stay at home mom with two daughters. We live on small farm in MN. We have around 150 chickens, 3 turkeys, 4 geese, 1 bunny, 8 cats (some inside and some outside), 3 pet birds (1 cockateal and 2 starlings I raised from babies) and two dogs, a chocolate lab and now a yorkie named Cody. We adopted Cody from a lady that said she loved him, but was never home anymore and didn't want him alone all the time. When we went to meet him, I could see right away that he was spoiled rotten and he definitely thought he was alpha. He is 8 years old and has never had any training, doesn't even know 'sit'. I knew he might be a challenge and in the past we haven't had very good luck with dogs and the chickens (they are all free range) so I was a little leery about getting another dog, but he seemed to love my girls and they loved him so we took him home. The first couple of days were kind of rough, he and I had a couple showdowns, but he quickly learned I'm pack leader in this house. He seems to be adjusting quite well to life on the farm, gets along great with the birds, cats and Chocolate (the lab). We've started training and are working on 'sit'. I think it's going to take some time though, during training sessions he just looks at me like I'm on crack LOL |

welcome to you and your crew!!! sounds like you have a busy day every day. =*(()) |
Welcome. Very admirable of you to take an alpha dog. They can be extremely challenging. The nice thing is you have the farm and animals so your Yorkie can find it's place. once you get some training in, you should have a wonderful pet. |

Hello and Welcome to YorkieTalk! :) |
Welcome to you and your zoo, er blended pack? :D Eight years old huh. What made you decided to adopt this guy instead of one in rescue? I hope he works out for you guys. Kind of wondering after the people had him for eight years, why they decided to re-home. I don't think they told you the whole story. ;) Keep us updated on his progress. |
What a great life. I adore all sorts of animals, birds etc. I volunteer at a horse rescue stable and there are not only horses but also donkeys, cats, a goat, a pig and several dogs. Everyone eventually learns their place and it's fairly peaceful. Welcome to our group. |

Now he's never alone, I'm always home and if I go somewhere he comes with. He's my shadow all day long and when bedtime comes he's out like a light, you could tell the first few days that he wasn't use to so much exercise. So far I have only seen a couple bad behaviors, but they are minor and can be easily corrected with some training. :thumbs26: |
