My yorkie has started to hide her treats. Hi, i just noticed today everytime i have gave my yorkie a treat she will hold it in her mouth and run around with it then she will bury it anywhere she can find as if she is trying to hide it. If i go and find it, she will pick the treat back up in her mouth and will watch me carefully, when she thinks i'm taking no notice she will then go off to find another hiding place. She will then watch carefully as if she is guarding her hidden treat. I have also noticed she keeps rubbing her nose on the floor when she is around her food. Does anyone know why she could be doing it, or if it means anything? |
Poppy has always done this, I don't know why. I will always find treats hidden in my bed or behind cushions ect. |

Cooper will walk around the house for hours looking for the perfect hiding spot for his bones or treats. He used to just put them in the middle of the floor in a room as if it was a great spot but now he is getting sneakier. Of course Max follows him around while he's calculating because he wants to eat the hidden gem! |
That is so funny AllDogBoots, they are just too cute!...I would just love to know what they are thinking :) |

Max: "when am i gonna eat this treat? |
Not sure about rubbing her nose on the floor... but my Tillie hides a piece or two of kibble every evening. I kept moving them to one specific corner of the sofa (where their blanket is tucked in so it doesn't end up lost IN the furniture ) And now, that's where she hides things :D |
Romeo loves to hide food as well and I don't consider it an issue at all. I believe it's the "terrier's" natural instinct. The cutest part is that he remembers where he buried his treasures!!! |
Sugar plays with NO toys. BUT..... She will hide her treat (sometimes taking 20 minutes) and then B A R K at me when the treat is sufficiently hidden  I then have to search the house for said treat......sometimes ad nauseaum ( I have been known to cheat and substitute a fake treat to return to my sitcom :D:D) |

Haha! These stories are histerical! Brooklyn hides her treats all the time! Even funnier, my mother-in-law has a silky terrier & she hides her treats a well, whenever I bring Brooklyn over for a doggy play date her first order of business is to sniff out silkies hiding spots and steal ALL of her treats. Tooooo funny! The personalities on these dogs are awesome! Brooklyn always makes me laugh with her antics! LoL! :) |
I have treat bidders too. What is cute to me is when your cleaning and you find their hidden treats. I just leave them if they haven't been there too long. |
ME TOO! Tucker hides his bones...he doesn't trust hiding his treats. If Lola finds a treat she will eat it but if Lola finds his bone he just wrestle's it out of her mouth and hides it again. She doesn't mind her tail is wagging the whole time and she has this smirk on her face like "Ha, come and get it big boy....I found your bone"! |
So Polo will run around for about an hour moving the treat from here to there... and as soon as he has it hidden, he starts to whine... and then runs and moves it again.. He has gottrn stuck behind several pieces of furniture while doing this... the most ironic part is, he always ends up eating it and not hiding it! So when I take him for a walk and he lifts his leg... he does his bull kick, where I think he is trying to cover what he just did... the funniest thing is that he kicks dirt and grass everywhere, except for where he just went! |

Sophie Kate is famous for hiding her treats. Just last night I pulled one of her bags out of the closet (had not used it in almost a year), when I unzipped she jumped in and found a treat she had hidden in it. She will also hide her Nyla bones inside my pillow cases, I have washed them a number of times. |
Charlie scarfs a treat down way too fast to actually hide one. lol That boy loves to eat! As soon as I give him a treat the only place he's running to is a comfortable spot to eat it! lol |
Some of these stories are so funny, i'm loving yorkies little ways!! We have only had mollie for a few days, but we've been forever laughing at her since we got her, and we love her so much already!! |

Nala hides both her treats and her food. Nala does the nose thing too.... it seems like she is trying to bury the treat or food. She also uses the top of her head to bury treats. She digs, puts the treat in the imaginary hole and then covers it up by pushing with her nose or top of her head repeatedly. This all happens on the couch or in the middle of the floor. It is the funniest thing ever. |

yup. Ranger will ask for a treat...and then ask for another, and then another.... After awhile I realize he is asking for them so he can go hide it. I had some liver treats I made myself in the refrigerator which would spoil--Ranger went outside and hid one in the dirt. |
My little Muffin used to bury her treats when she was a puppy. She'd find various spots in the house. I remember one day she wanted out with her treat and she took it outside and dug a little hole next to the patio and buried it in there!:D |
Winnie will do the same thing, only she whines with her treats in her mouth until she finds the perfect spot, and if we are watching her do this it will take her longer to hide it. But as soon as we stop looking she finds a spot. Its so funny to hear her whines like this everytime she has a treat, especially with her Denta Stix! They are all over the place, she once tried to put one down the back of my DH's pants, very funny stuff. |

OMG hahahaha :sidesplt: That is very funny :D:D |
When I was a little girl, I had a little chi that would look in my dad's shirt pockets to see if he had any treats in there. I don't remember if she hid any treats though.:p |
my dogs do this too, sometimes they even go thru the motions to bury something, like in my bed & then take their noses & pretend to bury the bone, wierd but think it's instictual, totally normal dog, puppy behavior, saving their food/treasure for later. so so cute:) |
it takes sonic a while to hide treats also, when he does find a spot he tries to cover it up *when he thinks he covered it up* he goes on his way.. when you say your yorkie is rubbing the floor she maybe *covering* her food or so she thinks |
I just noticed my Yorkie hiding her chew bone the other day. Her previous owner said that Gracie would bury bones next to my house, so if I ever dig there I'll probably find them. I find this behavior adorable but I know it must be instinctual for them. The "rubbing her nose on the floor" is something I have seen my Gracie do, as well, after she finds just the right hiding place for her treat. I believe it is also instinctual... just imagine her pushing imaginary dirt over the top of her treat with her nose. She's making sure that no one else will find it! |
