Traveling from Canada to Mexico For the past two years, my BF and I have spent time in Playa Del Carmen Mexico for NYE and for about two weeks. This winter, we are planning on staying for about 3 - 4 weeks and want to bring our 2 year old Yorkie along with us :) Playa Del Carmen is such a great place and we have visited there about 5 times in the past two years. Hercules is amazing. He is 10 pounds, very energetic and a social-able dog. After reading about traveling to Mexico with a dog, it seems pretty easy and I want to ensure that this decision is right. He usually stays with a family member, but keeping him there for about a month seems a little bit over stretched. I am looking for some honest opinions and feedback for this decision. :) We have already begun looking for a pet friendly condo (we have family who has a condo in a great complex, so they are helping as well). I would like some details on flying with a pet, how to make the adjustment and what to expect. Thank you!! |
You will need to go to the Mexican site to determine their entry requirements for a dog. At the minimum you will probably need a health certificate and current rabies shot proof. At 10 pounds will you dog fit under the seat in front of you? Look at the airline you will be using and find out their regulations for the carrier dimensions then see if your pet can fit into a carrier that would fit under the seat. I f your pup is unlikely to fit under the seat then he must travel cargo. And either cargo or on board the flight, you will need to purchase him and prebook him a seat. The travelling with Yorkies forum does have some suggestions; may I suggest you visit there and review some old threads about airline travel with a Yorkie You will also need to research the area you will be staying in; to at least familiarize yourself with dangerous flora n fauna, and where the nearest vets are located to your temporary domicile. |
Thank you so much for the information :) I will be sure to check out the forum for traveling Yorkies! |
