wet food, how long in your refrigerator? Does anybody know how long you can keep a 12.5 oz can of wet food in your refrigerator? Gabby is such a picky eater. We had been mixing a table spoon of boiled chicken with a quater cup of her dry food twice daily and she loved it.For the past two days she will not eat her food. She is playing and running around so i do not think anythings wrong other than her being picky. Tonight we picked up a can of blue wet food and mixed it a little with her blue kibble and she ate most of the 1/4 Cup. |
3 days no more |
I had the same problem. I was thinking of buying the smaller cans and the pet store where I buy my food said to just buy the bigger can and split it up into a couple days serving each and freeze it. They just take out what you need for a day or two. We tried that and it is working great so far. We mix about a tablespoon of canned with a tablespoon of chicken Weruva and the kibble. It makes about a 1/4 cup each time. For now she is gobbling it right up, which hasn't always been the case. But for now it's working. :bravo: |
Thank you!! I will keep in refrigerator for no more than 3 days. I may try freezing cause that 12.5 oz can will last forever. So u r saying take out enough for 3 days then freeze. So on the 3rd day take back out of freezer and leave out until it thaws and take a few more days out and freeze again. How are you storing the food in your freezer ?I am sure it's not left in the can,or is it? I'm sure my wife will know. |

I use the Fresh Baby Fresh Baby Breast Milk Storage Trays - Walmart.com trays to freeze. When I open a can, I'll fill up the trays, and I'm normally left with about 3 days that are leftover. I'll use those first, then take out a cube for each meal. I microwave a cube for 25-30 seconds (until it's thawed, but not hot) and add their kibble to that. It saves a ton of money and I'm not wasting any. You could also put a cube in the fridge to defrost overnight and set out a bit before feeding so it's not cold if you don't want to use the microwave. I do this with pumpkin too :) I store the cubes in ziplock freezer bags, and the leftover canned food in a glass container with a lid. |
Take out what you need for 3 days and freeze the rest |

I agree... I home cook and mix with kibble. I have not gotten a system down for freezing the food yet. If I freeze in too large of containers I worry it goes bad before they eat it. |
