How much? I guess I just need to know I'm not the only one constantly shopping for stuff for my dog. I can't tell you how many bows, brushes and combs, perfumes, outfits and coats, and toys...oh god the toys I have! Every time I get a package in the mail I cringe at what my DH is going to say. Gabby gets a package at least once every other week. At some point I think I need to downsize what she has so I can sneak new stuff in! LOL! |
Hahaha! I sneak shoes sometimes (for myself) . Shhhh!! I have the same problem. I just bought Max a closet!!! It is for small dogs and I have it categorized by season. We spent $120 tonight at the dog boutique! OMG..I have totally lost it. |
Oh trust me you are not alone!! I buy wwwwaaaaayyyyy to much! Waiting on 4 packages right now!:eek::eek: We use the don't ask don't tell. He don't ask how much and I don't tell!! :D:D |
"How much?" You NEVER total the bills for all the things your buy for your yorkie....it's a yorkie owner rule. In fact, you're actually supposed to pay for each item separately, so each bill/receipt is smaller, so it seems like you're spending less than you are :D. |

Callie has to much of everything lol. What bothers me is I buy her stuff with my own money but whenever I have a box come in my grandparents moan and groan about Callie getting more stuff and I'm like hey its my money and it makes me happy to spend it on her. |

I just turned a little cabinet thing I have into a doggie wardrobe.... I am a super broke grad student and spend WAY too much money on my dogs. When my BF gets upset with me for spending too much money I usually just way over exagerate how much stuff was on sale!! O:) I usually do only buy stuff on sale...just not usually quite as much as I might say it was..... |
i have the same problem but not only for doggie stuff but also for makeup and fabric....my husband is home all day so i cannot hide the packages coming in...hehe so sometimes i lie and say i got free samples!! he just rolls his eyes at me and pretends i dont have a shopping/yorkie addiction. so bad i know...but hey there are way worse things i could be doing! i too just recently converted a rack i had to a doggie closet...but i might just have to look into purchasing a better one. |
I too am afflicted with this illness.... It's not an addiction it's an illness and we deserve support not condemnation. .... Anyway my girls are also waiting on 4parcels this week. That doesn't include the food, new coats, toys and grooming products I already bought. They are only 13 weeks but the shampoo and conditioner (Tigi) was on sale. Realy I m saving money cause won't need to pay full price when I buy in the future. |

I too go overboard, seem to have a thing for beds and harnesses, I have one dog that has 7 beds and one on order and about 6 walking harnesses. I don't even know how many dresses I have now, probably 25 and I have 7 on order and Lola hardly wears dresses. I think of her as a Barbie doll for grown ups, for some sick reason even though she might never wear a lot of them, having them makes me happy. (LOL I must talk to a shrink about that) I also buy stuff even if it is not for Lola because I figure one of my yorkie friends will want it and buy it from me, currently I have about 5 dresses that are not in Lola's size but the price was to good to pass up! I also just bought a little girls short set because it had yorkies on the tank top and all over the shorts. It was size 5T and on clearance at KMart for about $8.00, I have NO children, NO grandchildren, NO small nieces and really did not know anyone that would need it. But I messaged a ton of my yorkie friends and low and behold someone wanted it. So not only do I shop for my dog I buy for others as well and I don't do this for profit, they pay me what I paid, it's just I can't pass up a good yorkie deal. Good thing I work from home and do all the bills because my DH would have a fit if he knew how much I bought! |
Mine started when I started working in a dog boutique....i got the employee discount, and so any time new stuff would come in i had to buy it! I convinced myself it was so i could sell the product the correct way! But at the end of the day, since i have most of the items you would find at my store and any other boutique, i can at least vouch that they actually work. But ive always been a shopaholic. |
I think some of it can be redirection for gratification. A lot of people spend money on themselves for a pick-me-up but then feel guilty about it afterward. If you're spending money on your baby, or on your pets -- same gratification, less guilt. Oh it isn't for ME -- it is for xyz. When my daughter was a baby, I had a HUGE problem with buying her new things. It took a lot of time and effort to stop trying to show affection via $$. Not that you guys are doing this -- clearly some of you are taking a second look at overspending on your poochies. |

I am okay with spending money on Ralph (: I think he deserves every toy and treat. But I dont think that I show affection via money, sure I spoil him, but that is not that only way, he gets spoiled by going on playdates with his friends, going on nice long walks, going to groomers to get all pretty and cleaned, playing for hours and hours with toys, buying purified water just for dogs, and buying the best food out there and hand feeding it to him every day, and even rubbing his belly a certain way for him to go to sleep. So do I overspend on Ralph, probably. Is it bad? In my opinion no. Do i overspend to show Ralph affection via money? No. If i stopped buying Ralph everything, he would still love me just as much:thumbup::D |
I dont shop just to shop. when I purchase something Ive thought aout it thought if I really need it. I do alot of my shopping online though in fact the vast majority of it. I like it ecause I can find exactly what I need. Right now Im purchasing koi for my pond so thats all Im looking at and deciding on. I dont really purchase alot for my yorkies anymore. I did purchase alot of outfits and things untill they were around 2 or 3 they are 6 now and I just dont need anything for them |

Whoa...! this is like looking in a mirror! but it doesn't stop with clothes and toys... I have double and single car seats, floppy beds in every room, enough leashes, harnesses and collars to start my own dog walking service, and piles of paw print dog blankets in every size. I have four sizes of sling carriers and a stroller. Max and Marley have more designer hair care products than any teenage girl, and enough over the counter ear wash/eye wash, calming drops, and dental care products to start our own clinic. I take some sollace in the fact that Marley started out at the weight Max is now, so most of the clothes and harnesses are being passed down. My daughter says, petulantly, that my fur-kids have it better than she did. |
No you are not alone. We pick up stuff all the time for ours girls. My daughter sometimes comments that we should not waste money on something and then she picks it something she wants and says we should get it for the girls. :D I pick up stuff for the furgirls and my real baby girl too. All of them are spoiled. My poor son does not have a chance but he was the only one for many years . Besides he's an adult now (ha ha). |

Oops... I forgot... the Invisible Fence I put in cost nearly $1400. But the lives it is saving and the peace of mind it gives me are priceless. |
Where is KatyScarlett? Now, that is one pampered pooch! I think the picture of that little girl in her airplane-print dress being held by the Captain on her last plane trip says it all... All the rest of us are amateurs... LOL! |

Hi, my name is Brittany and I have a dog spending addiction *waves* I spent WAY too much. He gets a package every other week at least. Sometimes it's the necessities (like, like last week I got flea/tick meds) but I just LOVE spending money on him, LOL. Oh well. It's my money, and I don't buy a whole lot for myself. Some women spend money on shoes, purses, clothes.. I spend mine on dog items! LOL |
2 Attachment(s) It's good to know I'm not the only one with a problem! I feel rather sane now. I KNEW I came to the right place when I joined Yorkie Talk! You know what they say about birds of a feather flocking together. Now with my new addition of Daisy, I get to spend money on TWO dogs. They are so spoiled and pampered that most of my friends are convinced I'm crazy. I'll take crazy as long as I have my furbutts right next to me any day over being sane and surrounded by humans. Though, please don't ever tell my dogs that they're of the canine species. I think it would devastate them both to the point where we'd need doggie counseling! Seriously though... does that look like a neglected dog to you? |
I spent a lot when I first got Gracie for things like steps and car seat and carrying bags. I never really bought a lot of extras for a dog until Gracie. Since she gets cold so easily I had to invest in some clothing. She has sweaters, shirts, a few dresses and a couple of coats and socks of course. But it's not like I have to keep buying clothing for her as I did for my kids. She is not getting any bigger. I do spend regularly on her food. I get the very best food for her because I feel that is the most important thing I can do for her in the long term. Of course her grooming products are an ongoing expense between the shampoo, conditioner and conditioning sprays as well as going to the groomer when necessary. I just bought another sized grooming comb and some grooming bands. There are ongoing expenses that I guess I could avoid but if we are spending money that is not reserved for bills and household expenses then I guess it's not a bad thing. It's something I want to do for her. I do a lot for my grand kids and I give to charitable organizations as well so it's not like she is the only focus of my spending. Now, that is my defense. |
I was spending a lot on outfits but then I decided to make them myself and it is way cheaper. I spend most of mine on vet bills. I have 6 dogs and it seems like one of them is always due for something lol |
I am very glad I do the bills :). I am a sucker for dresses and I have HAD to try a lot of grooming products because of Angels unique coat. Hubby would have a stroke if he knew how much I spent on the Chris Christensen brush and comb but they are the only thing that works on this soft, fine cotton coat. And I am still trying to find just the right shampoo/conditioner/spray combo. There is a new book out about Coton grooming and hope to get some new tips. I am glad Hubby stays out of the laundry room. I keep all her clothes in there and I am afraid the shock of seeing all the dresses, coats, overalls, pants, skirts, shirts, jammies in one place might be too much for him! |
