Mandatory Pet Restraint in Vehicles? 2 states currently are working on mandatory Pet restraint. I, for one, think its a fabulous idea!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Driving with a dog on your lap: As dangerous as texting? - The Week |
Oh, me too!!! Most dogs are completely loose inside cars and subject to being hurled through the air just like adults and kids used to be. I know most dog owners will not want to do this - like those that let dogs ride hanging half out the window or in the backs of trucks, etc. We can barely get a lot of people to buckle up and then trying to get them to restrain their dogs. |
You know, It is sad that we would even need a common sense law like, seat belts, helments and so on. (On principle the ol' hippy in me says NO MORE LAWS, Big Brother is to nosey already.) But perhaps pets and young children have to be protected from stupid parents ? |
Oh, they do need protecting. Plus, they can be a big distraction to the driver when they are running around in the car or trying to get in your lap or trying to jump into the back seat or fighting each other. And when the distracted driver slams into the tree, all dogs go flying. I just don't think it will pass as police departments are overtaxed with duties and lack of funds as it is. Can you see a policeman pulling a car over for a loose dog in it? I just don't think there are enough police to enforce the law except after the fact - ticket the driver after a wreck where the dog(s) is/are loose in the vehicle. |

Now that was well said. |
Totally agree with the idea, and live by it myself... sadly I know this will only free up the driver's hand to text message and drive... |
I saw this on our local news the other night. I am one of the few people I know in my town who uses a car seat or restraint of any kind. We see it daily at the bank where I work...we give treats at the drive-thru window and the dogs are hanging out the window most times ready for their goody:( or in the back of the pick-up truck:(:(:( I am glad to see our state lawmakers trying to put this one in as law. |

Having seen the result of motor vehicle accidents first hand I am an avid supporter of human and pet restraints in all vehicles. I also am against government regulation in most cases but when people do not know enough to protect the innocent then someone has to do it for them. A pet can be hurdled into and through the windshield of an automobile without a great deal of speed when brakes are applied in a vehicle. People say they love their pets so much that they just have to take them where ever they go but then they don't even bother to protect them from serious injury. It's sad that states have to take this action. |
I have car seats. :) And I know Jan, beasiegirl on YT, who I work with has one as well. Maybe we can encourage others in our area. Another Yorkie owner we work with just ordered one like I have so maybe our bad influence isn't so bad after all! :D:D |
I am all for it. My 2 are always restrained in a car seat or they don't ride. Same as I did with my son. |
As a rule of thumb I do not transport corky and he is not in a pet carrier. I have seen pets killed in car accidents... not pretty.. |
I am guilty of letting my little one ride in my lap, with only her harness and leash attached to keep her safe. We're making the drive to Florida from TX next month and I want to invest in the proper restraint. I feel so bad! I agree this should be a law! Just like "click it or ticket" with humans wearing seatbelts, so too should pets get this protection! |
A family driving through here, where the woman was driving, had a chihuahua jump into her lap. That caused an accident and the woman was killed. |
