HELP!!! Yorkie chewing on my walls Millie has been chewing on anything she can this includes my walls. Any advice on how to stop her from doing this |
Ralph never chewed on the walls, but he did try to chew on some furniture I would suggest more chew toys, and more chew sticks, like himilayan chews, bully sticks, antlers. If you have already tried that i would suggest trying this: Bitter Cherry Taste Deterrent Spray | Ralph the Poodle I had a client who used the spray on her hands and furniture and her dog stopped. But I would try going to petsmart and getting some chew toys and such first, maybe she is teething or loosing her baby teeth! If you want to get her some chew treat I would go to http://www.doggyloot.com they have great deals on bully sticks and Himalayan chews all the time, and i haven't been able to find chew sticks cheaper (: |
Sounds like your baby has a severe desire to chew! What are you giving for chew toys? |
Chase did this when he was a puppy. I tried the bitter spray, but he must've liked it because it didn't work. He would only do it when he was bored though, even though he had a ton of toys. I would give him a bully stick when we were eating, which kept him busy. He stopped doing it when we brought Calvin home....maybe your baby wants a brother or sister ;) |
Ziggy does this from time to time as an act of impatience or boredom. I usually give a firm No and remove him, then take him outside for some fresh air or play with him. It does the trick (he hardly ever does it anymore) |
Sophia used to do this all the time!!! Now we got Brody and the walls are no longer being chewed :). Millie is probably bored! |
Miss Priss has tried to gnaw on the woodwork but when she did I would give her a bully stick or some other chewy item...When they are really young they need to have a lot of stimulation and play time, walks and such..they usually do the naughty stuff when they are bored. Btw, I am not a pro, just have noticed with my peke and yorkie. Good luck and have lots of patience.. |
Well im sure this is no shocker but cocoa is doing the same... She chews the baseboard table legs drywall peepads etc. she likes to eaylt the bitter apple spray and vinegar |
I mean no shocker because they are sisters lol |
Thanks everyone!! I think it is because she is bored as well. I now have her confined to the kitchen, which is the room I am in the most. Before I had her confined she was never more than 2 steps behind me, she didn't chew on the furniture then, but she wouldnt use her pads. Now that she is only in the kitchen she uses her pads, but I can't be wih her all of the time, mind you she gets plenty of attention, but I guess she needs more. LOL. Someone told me to spray vinigar on what she chews so I have been trying that. I would love to get her a brother but just haven't found one yet!!! |
Cocoa likes the vinegar abd apple spray so millie prob will to lol first spray it worked five min later she was licking it. |
I would suggest getting her some bully sticks. It helps with boredom and the chewing urge. They don't break off and dogs tend to relive stress by chewing. |
I would make sure she has many many safe things to chew on and when you can not watch her to put her in a play pen. If she has a favorite spot to chew you might want to spray it with bitter apple. You could tell her no and then squirt her with a water bottle also. |
Harry got addicted to Bitter Apple spray........and loved being squirted with the water bottle (he thought it was a lazy way of having a drink...:D) I think I read on here somewhere about using a mens unperfumed roll-on deodorant (or was I dreaming?!)...but it would take a heck of a lot to do all your walls.... It does stop with age and time, in the meantime - loads of chew toys, diversion, and exercise! :) Good luck! Sally + Harry x |
Jack never chewed on anything till Josie come around. She taught Jack bad habits. Learned from YT about all the good chew stuff to leave for them and the bitter stuff to spray, it did stop. I had all my corners fixed after the chew stage was broken. Then I kept my brothers 2-dogs last year and they were terrors. Knawed a few of the corners I had fixed. Could have strangled them. |
Bitter apple spray didn't work for my Izzy, she loved the taste:p Someone here said to use a stick deodorant and that worked like a charm, she hasn't chewed the baseboards or furniture since:laugh: Just get a cheap dollar store men's deodorant and rub it wherever she's been chewing. I guarantee she won't chew there anymore. It doesn't damage the wood, and can be wiped off easily when you think the urge is gone. Good luck:D!! |
Okay just finished putting my husbands deodorant on the places i have noticed her chewing. i can see how it would work, they're not going to like that taste. |
The bitter apple spray didn't work for us either. I try to keep Katie Scarlett's toys swapped out and it has done the trick. I guess she was trying to tell me she was bored. And bully sticks keep her occupied for a long time. |
Is she teething? Is it happening when nobody is home? I had this problem w/Princess when she was about 6/7 months old, my vet said it could be separation anxiety. Whenever I had to leave, I connected 2 x-pens together in the room they were in so she couldn't get to the wall. She eventually outgrew it. When they're supervised, you can give them a chew toy or bully stick. |
Had to do a few things out today and couldn't bring Millie along so i stopped and bought her a couple bully sticks I don't think she has let up on this thing scince I gave it to her, she is even wearing her t shirt which means she must be very busy to leave it on. |
Rylee Belle tends to chew on MY shoes !!!! Try a bully stick...........it works!!!! |

Bailey went through a chewing phase. He probably still does, but we haven't found his destruction lately. For us it was the antlers that did the trick. As I have talked about before, these are all natural deer and or elk antlers which they shed each season. He likes the 4-5" ones that aren't too thick on one end. I got a few that are a bit wide on one side and he doesn't really like them as much. I just prefer him having antlers to bully sticks now that I know what they are! |

Well, did the deodorant work? I'm curious to see if this method works for most dogs, or just my crazy chewer! I just caught her chewing on the toy basket the other day so had to whip out the deodorant again, she hasn't chewed on it since:laugh: |
