Yorkies and Dobermans
 

Does anyone have both living together? Any thoughts or stories to share? Just looking for opinions from people who who have yorkies and dobies or similar working breeds about how they get along.

I don't have a doberman but my brother and my sister-in-law do. He is a rescue from the animal shelter and the sweetest dog you will ever meet. My sister-in-law is a vet tech and she takes Jake to work with her almost every day. She works for the vet I use and he has two yorkies and a biewer...they boss Jake around:p He thinks he is a little dog. I would trust him around my two any day.
They also own a little doxie named Woody and here is a pic of the two of them together..sorry they are so tiny..I had to swipe them from my SIL FB page:D

I don't have much experience w/ Dobermans personally, but do know that males have a tendency to be same-sex aggressive - big time. Responsible breeders will not place a male Dobe in a house with another male unless you are a very experienced Doberman owner and willing to crate/rotate if necessary. They may be fine for the first 3 years of their life and suddenly develop it, so just something to look out for.

Unfortunately, one of my aunt's husband's siblings just had her Yorkie killed by a Doberman who ran across the street and viciously attacked her. :( It was apparantly a horrific site. Sorry to relay negativity, I wish I had more experience w/ them, but I don't :(

But they seem like such cool dogs - so regal looking. They do have a lot of health issues and often live a relatively short life.

Jackson has spent lots of time around my uncles German Shepherd female, who is now around 8 months... they very rarely play, he just prefers to not even get her started because he knows she's so much bigger, and her play style is a lot rougher. He also grew up around a Rottweiler pup and they got along GREAT - both very much respected each other. Jackson helped raise him.

I have a yorkie and a german shepherd and the get along well. i do not have them together for long periods of time. i don't worry that he would hurt her purposley but she want to run right under him and I do worry that he may step on her

I have no exp with dobies but i have a yorkie and a very large airedale. They get along very well. Of course i do not leave them alone together unsupervised.
The airedale is too big to play safely , one wrong placement of the foot and poor little oscar would get squished.....

Sorry I can't speak on Dobermans but we have a Yorkie and Boxer and Georgie literally runs the show to the point that after walks poor Coco has to wait until Georgie is done drinking the water to get her turn (doesn't matter if they have seperate water bowls Georgie will go from one to the other!). I am convinced Georgie drinks more on purpose LOL. We started leaving them alone about 3 years ago when we would go to dinner etc.. and they do great! I never feared her being aggresive towards Georgie she has always been so sweet with dogs and people.

PS My in-laws had a poodle and Doberman years ago and they said they did fine together.

I am not sure about Dobies, but I had to dog sit my Brothers Min Pincher (Grace) and his Boxer (Leo) a couple months ago-

They all get a long great, I just love both breeds as well as the personality of my brothers dogs.

Grace has always treated Pnut like her little puppy- she is always licking him and looking out for him so to speak-

Leo, is almost like the big brother. He is always chasing Pnut around wanting to play and hang out with him. Leo has never shown any aggression or anything negative towards Peanut-

I let them all in the back yard to get some fresh air, well Dh threw a ball, Leo and Pnut went to go get it.. I didnt think anything of it bc they have played before... Well they both got to the ball at the same time, Leo grabbed it first- Peanut got mad and started to growl and started to nip at Leo's face...

I'm not sure what to say or how to say it but Leo didnt bite back or anything he kind of used his big ol head to push Peanut down so Peanut would stop nipping at him- Dh ran over there to pull Peanut away!!

It was crazy! I am so thankful Leo is a good dog bc that could have been ugly!

It is not always the big dog that attacks- In some cases the little dog starts the fight, it is usually the big one that wins!

I would love to have a bigger breed, but honestly I am not a good dog trainer- I do believe if you have a small and large breed dog you always have to be on your game and your dog should be trained to the Max!!


Also when Peanut is on my lap, and Leo walks over to see me Peanut will growl at him and show Leo his big teeth!! Leo will just look at him and walk away!!

We have a yorkie, a shorkie, two shih tzus and two basset hounds and they all love each other very much

I also have no experience with dobies, but we have had big and small dogs for a long time. We had a big dog that was a german shepherd/chow mix (along with whatever else we don't know) that was 117 lbs. She was a very gentle dog and we never had any trouble with her and our yorkies. We also have a large yellow lab and never had any trouble with her and the small dogs either. Currently we have the yellow lab, 2 yorkies, and a maltese and they do fine together. Our yellow lab is getting old and occasionally growls at our 2 yr old maltese when she gets to bothering her too much but never gets aggressive. Now a human that messes with one of the kids will get bit in a heartbeat! So she's actually more aggressive toward humans than our other dogs. I think we will probably always have a large dog along with our small dogs.

Not Dobies, but I have a Yorkie, 2 larger Shetland Sheepdogs, and a German Shepherd. I do have to watch my GSD with my Yorkie, not because she would hurt him intentionally, but because she plays by using her feet and she has slapped him down before, which could seriously hurt him. Most of the time she is very good with him, but I do have to make sure that neither of them get overly excited and worked up.
