Always same question.. " tea cup" ?!
 

Hi, everyone. we love to take our Truffle (3.5 lbs, 6months old, parents are both around 4 lbs ) baby everywhere! she take Metro to DC for Cherry blossom festival, shopping malls, wherever we can take her she comes.

I just getting tired of same same questions.....
"Oh~ She must be Tea Cup!?" :confused:
I know she is small size everywhere we go and always smallest dog at doggy pay date etc.....

my husband always tells people " it's no such a tea cup yorkie"....
I always tells everyone " may be tea cup size" small but she is still a puppy and she is still growing ;)

I was wondering how you guys respond to some people when they ask if your baby is "the Tea cup" baby?!

some times I just feel like she is "the Pre-manuter" baby or something...

We are ready to attend "Yorkie meet up" next sunday in our area.... hope Truffle is not the smallest size ...

we love her in that size but just so often people ask same questions ...
make me feel wondered how you guys feel about it or have you had experience in same kind satiation ?

Truffle is still a big girl for us and in her mind she is the bigger than our neighbor's big dogs :D

Not much more you can say or do except what you are saying, no such thing as a teacup anything, it is a marketing term dog sellers use that know nothing about dogs. But look at it this way, it is an opportunity to educate people about the Teacup term regardless of what kind of dog is being addressed.
I have the question about teacup yorkies asked all the time. I always treat them courteously and take the opportunity to inform them. Might save them some money down the road as well when they don't fork over thousands of dollars for a 'teacup' anything.

Use the opportunity to educate! It gets old, but you can shorten it up...."Actually, this is a Yorkie and they only come in one size, that is, a 'toy' dog....some are smaller than others, but the term Tea-cup is like calling little people "midgets"....it is unacceptable.......our little girl is still a puppy and she is growing, and she should hit what the breed standard recognizes, that is, 4-7 lbs." Thant's exactly how I feel sometimes.... and I'm going to remember all these sentences and tell all people from now on!

We have a little guy who is 3 and weighs 4.4 lbs and a 5 month old little girl who weighs 1.8 and what makes me madder is people who tell me Laddy is big for a yorkie and not as cute because of his size:mad:. People can be so rude about our babies size I have found it better to just turn and walk away without responding to lots of them.

I love your answer, but the actual breed standard says, "Must not exceed 7 pounds". I've read the 4-7 pounds information so many places, but the YTCA actually sets the standard. Sometimes, I think the 4-7 pounds idea even feeds the teacup notion, as if anything less than 4lbs might be a teacup. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Official Breed Standard

Thank you Nancy for the correction.....where did I get the 4#????????? I KNOW I read that someplace! Maybe someone TOLD me ......help me out show people!.......something about 4# in the show ring????? Now I am going to have to go back and dig thru everything I have and see where I cam up with a low limit of 4#!! Thanks again for correcting me on that.

I wrote the same thing here once and someone corrected me. Admin said that that was what the AKC said, and at one time they did have that, but have since changed it. American Kennel Club - Yorkshire Terrier. Now we need to get admin to change. :p

Most good breeders I've talked to will not breed a girl under 5 and even 6 pounds. The YTCA site does say something about 4-7 pounds have the least health risks.

REAL Yorkie owners!!" They know a lots! :)

Hi, I know how you feel and I agree some peoples are rude. I gets scared every time some kids try to hold Truffle without asking, She loves kids and so jumpy when she with little kids so I have to ask them not to hold her.
some one made command to us at D.C cherry blossom was " huh I have much bigger cat than her, that's not a dog!" and walked away..... :(
maybe he was jealous how Truffle was cute and proud walking under cherry tree with bow on;)

I've had my first yorkie for 5 years. By now, you can imagine, I am so sick of that question! I do try to be patient and educate but sometimes when you start explaining, peoples eyes just glaze over and you know they aren't even listening. Whenever we go out somewhere in public, I get that question and my 3 are 4.5lbs, 6lbs and 6.5 lbs and it doesn't matter which one I have, they think they are all "teacups".
