Now Mags, Will It Ever End? What I was afraid of, I think has happened. Been up and down with Mags pretty much all night, she's been coughin and gaggin. I think she now has the kennel cough to :-( One sneeze outta Jazzie so far, thinkin she'll more than likely end up with it to before this is all done and over with. And, the stray cat (Annie) we've been caring for is pregant! I brought her in the house yesterday and got her all set up in the spare room, bought a big dog bed for her for when she has her kittens, hopefully she uses that and not the regular bed instead. Got an appointment for her to take her to the vet today, but I'll be calling them first thing this morning as soon as they open about Mags, I'm sure she'll be going on meds now as well. Talked to vet yesterday about bringing Annie in the house with the furkids having kennel cough, wanted to make sure it was safe for her and the kittens when she has them (which I don't think is very far off,) they said she'll be fine, the kennel cough is breed specific to dogs. I'll be takin Annie in and getting her spayed after she has her kittens and they are weaned. Don't know if she has an owner out here and don't know what they'll say about her being spayed, but oh well, they never did it, so I will. Now I'll have to find good homes for the kittens when the time comes.... On a good note, Gracies doing lots better, she only coughs every now and again, hardly at all. Elijah is getting better, still has the cough but not as often and no where near as bad as it was. Prayers for Mags please if ya'll don't mind. She's just a tiny lil thing, a yorkie/chihuahua mix. She's 5 years old and weighed 5 pounds 9 ounces at her last vet visit and she has a compromised immune system. Pretty nervous about this with her. Jazzies 1 1/2 years old and weighs 4 pounds and 7 ounces. Prayin she doesn't get it as well, but something tells me she'll end up with it before it's all over with. Will update later today. |
Bless your heart, you sure got your hands full with all you gang being sick. Sending prayers they all get well soon. |

You poor thing you sure have your hands full. I'll say a prayer for you. |
Sounds like you need to get a Vet license. Praying your babies get better. |
Keeping you and your pets in my t's and p's... |
Im sorry all your little ones are getting sick. Im praying for them. The same thing happened to me with a stray cat that I was caring for she ended up pregnant then my cat got out and got pregnant so we had 2 litters of kittens. Thankfully we found homes for all of them except 3 that we kept. It was a crazy time though just like your having now |
Thank you so much everyone. This day is just enough to make me scream.... Got to the vet this morning, Mags does indeed have kennel cough, got all her meds and started her on them and doing steam treatment in the bathroom throughout the day, praying like crazy Jazzie don't get it, but with our luck, I wouldn't be surprised if she did. I had to cancel Annies (the stray cat) appointment for today, it was supposed to be at 4:15, but now our breaks went out on our vehicle! I'm tellin ya, I'm ready to scream!!! Oh, and doc prescribed more meds for Elijah cause he's coughing still :-( it's the hycodan, to help with the cough. Off to try and help the hubby get the brakes fixed now, have to keep comin in and checkin on furkids. I'm so tired.... |
You're amazing!!!! All will be well soon, praying for all 😌 |
It seems like they should just treat all the dogs and get it over with. It's such a contagious disease it would be slim to no chances that everyone would not get it. Hope things get better soon. As for the cat....more than likely she will go under the bed or some out of the way place to have her kittens. They get scared and want to be away from things. Unless she has a real attachment to you she will try to avoid people. I always knew why my Himalayan cats were in labor because they would start following me around and would not even lay down until I would sit with them by the birthing box. For the last four years I have been helping the abandoned and feral cats around where I live. What a task. They are the ones that look for a dark place where they feel safe. Hope all goes well. |
Doc doesn't want to start them on meds if they don't have it cause their system could get immune to it and then when they really do need it, it may not work. Annie is in the spare bedroom, none of the other furkids are allowed in there, so she'll have plenty of privacy. I went out and bought her a big dog bed yesterday that will fit her and her kittens in it when she has them and laid towels down in it. She's been laying in it rather than jumping up on the spare bed. She's pretty used to me and always comes to me when I go in there to spend time with her, but I don't want to stress her when she's having her babies either, so, if she goes to hide, I'll back off. |
You have been thru some stuff lately, and it is not near over yet, is it? Bless you...you're an angel. :) You cannot really predict an animal's behavior when having offspring. My first Shep/Lab, who was my baby girl, begged to go 'potty' outside in mid-winter...to welp pups in the snow. I found her having the 3rd and we took everyone inside to the welping box for the last 4, and warmed the first 3 pups up in my sweater. My second Shep/Lab, who was also my baby girl, dug an underground den. One feral kitty had her kittens in a folded tarp. Another feral kitty jumped up on our CA King waterbed, laid down in my husband's armpit  and went directly into labor, delivering 4 live kittens and 1 stillborn. I fetched and carried, especially layers and layers of soft towels from the welping box.:p:D I hope all goes well...for all concerned. You deserve a break in the action! :D |
