Bathing I was reading up on yorkies and grooming and it said that if water gets in their ears it causes ear mites how do you make sure you have get all the water out. Need as much info before my furbaby comes home |
Before you bath them put a piece of cotton ball in the ears to keep the water out, and rinse from back to front on the head, that helps. I personally have never heard of water in the ears causing ear mites. |

Yeast like warm, moist places. So some dogs get recurrent infections in their ears, especially after getting wet. Cotton balls is a good idea. My dog always shook them out. You should use a cleaner that also acts as a drying solution after your pup gets wet. |
Callie would not keep cotton balls in her ears. My vet said after bathing and swimming/getting wet to clean her ears out with an ear cleaner that has a drying agent in it and she gave me Epi-Otic it works great. Also helps to keep there ear hair plucked. |
How do the get ear mites? just wondering |

Oh, gosh. I'm glad it didn't really say that water in the ears causes ear mites! I hope YT wouldn't tell anyone that. Moisture in the ears can cause a yeast infection. Dogs with floppy ears tend to have more problems because the ears just help hold the moisture in there though dogs with ears that are up can also have issues. Our Lab had a couple of yeast infections. He hated having to be medicated, too. The ear can get all mucky with brown gunk. It's smelly, too. Always use a cotton swab after a bath to help dry up any excess moisture in the outer part of the ear. |
