Please help! My male yorkie has a habit of humping and this evening he got a string from his blanket caught down inside the skin of his penis.The string is about the size of a piece of thread. I cut the string from the blanket, but i can't get it out. I tried pushing the skin back but it is so far down that i can't get to the end of it...will this come out on its own? He dont seem to be in any pain from it but it worrys me that it might be wrapped around it. Please help! |

I am no expert but I would take him to the vet in the morning if you can't get it out tonight. Can you still see it? |
Yes its just hanging out, he has been licking it a lot...im hoping he will get it out himself. Im keeping a check on it, he has a habit of humping all the time and most of the time his penis is out lol sometimes i have to fix it..i talked to the vet about that and she says nothing to worry about, but this has never happened before so i dont know what to do if it doesn't come out on its own. Do you think it could be wrapped around it? Thats what worrys me. Hes urinating just fine though and doesn't yelp or anything. |
If it is wrapped around his penis and cutting off the circulation, it may be too late in the morning... best to get him to a vet now.... |
Where i live, there are no vets open at this time of night. I live an hour from my vet. |
I think if it was wrapped around it, he would be feeling it big time and you know. I bet he will get it out on his own. LOL about the humping. Max is a humper too. This is going to sound VERY weird but if he was able to "get it out" then maybe you could get the string out. May not be possible if he's uncomfortable. |
I just saw a post from kjc and I think she is an expert so you may need to prepare for a road trip. Can you call the emergency vet hotilne to see what they say? This must be an unusual incident for any vet. |
I would go to the vet as soon as you could and I would also start teaching him not to hump. |
I just checked him again and its still there...i also took him out to pee and he peed just fine....hes not acting like its sore or anything...if it was wrapped around it, would he still be able to pee? Hes not humping anything though, i have been watching, if he gets it out, then maybe i would be able to see if the string is wrapped or not. This is a new one on me! I can't go on a roadtrip, i could try to call my vet at her home. |

If it was me, I would take some K-Y jelly...or vaseline if that is all you have, and I would sit him in my lap and we would "get real friendly" if you know what I mean. I would put vaseline on his penis and work until I could get him to "drop" then I would try to see if I could get the string to come out with him extended as much as possible...if you pull on that string, and it does NOT come loose, it would seem to me it may very well have encircled his penis....this will be a problem for him, for sure! When the penis is lubricated from the vaseline, that string should slide right off/out...if it doesnt, dont pull, you will cut his penis if it HAS encircled it....but you need to be seen by a vet tonight....perhaps EMT's at the local firestation can help...boy they will LOVE me for suggesting THAT!!! |

Thanks all for the suggestions..i really do appreciate it. Thank GOD all is well..i did do the lubricating and did get very friendly LOL...afterward he started licking and licking and what do ya know...he fixed it himself! The string was about 3 inches long. I was ready to take him to the vet in the morning if it didnt come out. I was so worried about this because i talked to someone who works at a vets office and she told me he would be ok til morning, she told me how to flush it with warm water but i didnt have to do that either. He worked until he got it out himself...aren't yorkies the smartest??? Thanks again everybody...whew! i feel so much better now, i was a nervous wreck lol |
Yay! Just want to mention, if the string had wrapped around the penis and cut the circulation off, it would only hurt for a little while, then it would have become numb, and depending on how tightly wrapped the string became, tissue death would then start. Yorkiemom1 gave excellent advice for removing the string. |
