Thats good that you care about her that much and I don't mean to sound harsh here, but what about the owners responsiblity? I've read: "we set up a whelping area last night and I should be able to pick up most of the supplies" and "I need to get a thermometer" What are they doing to prepare for this ? They are the ones that are responsible for her not you! I'm sure there are many of us here that if put in the same situation would do the same but come on these are adults here, your just a kid. Something just doesn't seem right about that. She is one lucky little gal to have someone in her life like you who cares so much about her. I only hope that she is as lucky enough to have owners/family who care as much and are doing whatever in necessary to assure a healthy and safe whelp for her and her pups. |
updates so far, she hasnt had any puppipes yet. she gets bigger and bigger every day. so the "due date" was extemely far off. still waiting. keep trying to pressure the owners to take her to the vet but still nothing |
Well I sure hope at some point they realize there could be a problem and get her to the vet. Even if you don't have money I would suggest making sure you know the number and location of the nearest emergency vet in case she starts showing signs of needing medical care. She may not be able to have the pups and need a csection. |
Here is another link to some whelping info. It's pretty basic but easy to read. Maybe you could get them to read it so they will at least be some what aware of signs to look for. This little dog is apparently going to have a large litter and that can be dangerous to a small dog if a person is unaware of what they are dealing with. I know some very expert people have talked to you and I am far from an expert. I hope you can at least get the owner to be a bit more prepared. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/whelping.htm |
so we have an actual update. good news so far she has had 2 puppies and everything seems to be going well. will continue to monitor her as well as post pictures when i get them loaded up |
So far so good. Is she taking care of them? |
shes acting like a mom which is surprising. |
Wonderful news! Glad all is going well. |
Glad to hear that so far pups are okay, even if momma has taken to them someone will need to keep checking at least every two hours to make sure they are being fed (that includes through the night) and I hope the owners take momma and litter to a vet asap. Good luck and I admire you for trying to help these poor dogs. |

Congrats on a successful 2 pup whelp. Remember she will need a POP shot after birth completion. Also save the placentas, you must know and have equal number of placentas to puppies birthed. If not, immediate trip to vet. |

Is her labor over? Is she acting normal? Are you sure all the puppies are out? Have you felt her belly? |
