Help - need your thoughts on Joey's dry heaving Our poor little Joey....we had him at the vet last week for diarrhea and vomiting...and he was finally getting to be his old self. (the vet had us switch his puppy food to adult food for more fiber and we gave him some antibiotics)...anyway, yesterday he started (out of nowhere) to dry heave pretty badly. He is really bad at eating things off the floor, so I think he may have eaten something he wasn't supposed to. Anyway, he keeps making these weird dry heaving motions and it sounds like there is almost fluid in his lungs...and last night around 3am he vomited three times, and then he went back to sleep. He was playing this morning and his behavior and demeanor is normal except for the hacking every once in awhile. To be honest, we really can't afford to take Joey to the vet everytime he has something wrong....we spent $300 last week on him!! (we live in NYC), so I put a call into the vet and am waiting for a call back. In the meantime, has anyone experienced anything like this? What should we do?? |
I have seen many threads on this subject...but can't remember too much about them specifically. Why don't you search the archives, I'm pretty sure you will find something to help Joey. I sure hope he is all better soon. |

Did he eat today? Did food come up or is it just dry heaves? Shelby gets an upset tummy if she has a naughty day of eating carpet, cobwebs and floor crumbs  (Sounds like my house is filthy) She vomits up bile and one day she had dry heaves. I have found that getting something in her tummy first thing in the morning helps. If Joey won't eat dog food, try a little baby rice cereal and see how that sits with him. I am not a vet though. Please don't take this as expert advice. Just a mommy that has been there and done that. |
Im so sorry Joey is not feeling so well. I really dont know what the dry heaving can be. Maybe your place is a bit to dry with the heat, just a thought. Please keep us posted. |
Thanks, everyone. I came home early from work and all of a sudden Joey's heaving has stopped. I don't understand it, but I'm not complaining! Thank you all for your advice - hopefully Joey is ok now :) |
