Harnesses - pulling Those who use harnesses for walks, do your yorkies pull much ? I try to use harness mostly for walks but he just won't heel in the harness, sometimes I can make him heel a little bit if I have his favorite food but when he see's something more exiting he starts pulling the lead. He's big, about 19 pounds, big and very strong, so it's not comfortable when he pulls ! Also he has this barking issue, he acts way more ''wild'' if I have him in a harness, barks at everything, but if I have a collar on him or a half choke collar he almost never pulls or barks on walks. How can I get him to stop pulling in a harness?? He knows how to heel, but only wants to do it in a collar. Do your yorkies pull much in harnesses?? Do you reccomand some special harnesses for dogs who tend to pull? |
IF YOU CAN USE A HARNESS IT IS MUCH SAFER FOR A YORKIE BECAUSE OF THEIR DELICATE TRACHEA. TRY A NON PULL TRAINING HARNESS. THIS ONE IS A WELL KNOWN BRAND. Mesh Non-Pull Harness: The Sporn Company |
Does he cough or choke when you have a collar and leash on him? My Gracie can't take even a little pressure on her throat. Maybe your guy has a stronger trachea but I would still be really careful about pulling on a collar with him. Try making him sit before you start walking. If he starts pulling then don't more until he stops. If you can teach him that he does not get his way by pulling he may get the idea and stop. |
I just started training with Miss Brandy and the coke free harness was not working for us.. so our trainer suggested the permire easy walk harness and it works grate she has stoped after a fee walks.. the harness is cokefree it goes around their chest easy on easy off... the only thing is the D ring is in the front of the chest not on the back so it prevents them from pulling because it foces them to look at you.. Brandy now just sits well when she want to run and waits fot the ok to go.. I got mine on ebay instead of petsmart because they had smaller sizes..I got mine in rasberry it's to cute..good luck eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices |
We only use an harness. Then we had to train the dog because he would not "Heel". Now, when he finds a new friend.. he does pull. |
Sophia pulls when she walks, but she's getting better. Everytime she pulls, I stop. So now, she's starting to get that pulling actually gets her no where! I have the opposite problem with Brody, he likes to lay on the sidewalk. So after he goes, I pick him up and carry him while Sophia finishes lol. The things we do for these dogs  |
