Interceptor Production Halted - Now What? I'm due to pick up some heartworm meds for my lil' guy and I read that Interceptor production has halted. I noticed that a lot of people on the forums use Interceptor so I'm wondering what everyone else is planning on doing now that it's going to stop being produced for who knows how long? My vet said they are going to be switching everyone over to Trifexis but I didn't like the reviews I read on that one. Anyone have any suggestions? |
my vet gave morgan interceptor to use |
yes but that is going to run out soon...there will be no more. |
I'm crossing my fingers that production resumes before the end of the year and that we won't have to change. Grrr. |
I've read that many people are stocking up on it, although it seems like it would be unsafe to use if the expiration date had passed. |

I give heartguard |
WHY have they halted production? Before I stocked up on it, I would want to know why they did that! Sentinel is my drug of choice for my adults....my babies all go to new homes on puppy Revolution, just because I do not like giving little ones the chemicals in the oral heartworm meds. |
|
thats the problem... the letter i read from them didnt really give a difinitive answer as to why theyre stopping so i dont want to go stocking up on something that might be potentially harmful. |

I just got Yoshi a years supply last week and I will need to get Prissy's in a couple of months...now I don't know what to do... |
Both Chase and Calvin are on Trifexis, and are doing great. We used Sentinel on Chase up until last year when he started getting the Trifexis. Calvin was on Sentinel up until yesterday when he got his first Trifexis. |
My vet has a website so I send this info to them, I hope I can still get a 6 pack for Prissy and then when they are done I will put them on something else. |
Guess everyone at my house will be using Revolution...... |

I have used Revolution for years without any problems  |
Cali has been on Revolution for years with no problems. |
I had to switch from Sentinel to Trifexis because of the shortage. My vet still had some, but none in the proper dosage for my pups. They just got their second dose yesterday, so far, so good, no problems. This article reports on the problems at the Novartis plant: Read more: Most-recent FDA report sheds light on Novartis shutdown, recall This sentence in the article bothers me: Last week, the company sent a letter to veterinarians alerting them that a prescription medication for dogs that's made at the Lincoln plant might also be contaminated. |

Oh that is great! We are also having issues with tick meds for our outside dogs. Seems it is on backorder. And I think the bugs and critters will be worse this year!!! Oh my! Need to call my vet! |
I buy Callie's a year at a time and she wont run out until September so I am hoping they start making it again by then. |

i too hope they get the issues resolved before i run out in 6 months. |
That stinks! Now I don't know what to do, I gave Sheldon heartguard for the 1st 2 months and wanted to change to interceptor. My vet has 12 and 6 months packets but I afraid to give it to him now. |
