My baby girl Raelle is one year old now and is doing wonderfullywith her potty training, my 9mth old boy is doing ok.....BUT. let him out of sight and bingo he will go where he thinks no one is using..ie the upstairs landing! lol! I keep them both confined to the family room, but he is a little sneek! He will disappear for a few minutes, we call him and he comes back, but upon investigation....sure enough we will find a 'present' ....thank you sooo much Orion!! Not at all your fault, he'll get it eventually..i hope!!

You are right I would never do that. To me all that would teach them was to be terrified of me. Many years ago when I was akid my mom rescued a chihauhau any time we got out a fly swat, "and we didn't use it on him" he would tuck his little tail between his legs and hide

Millie had an accident in our bed once too, I said it was okay because it wad on my husbands side LOL :p

It took a while for my two boys to get it, my first two never used a pee pee pad, as much as I tried, I conclude it was my fault, when iciest got them as puppies, I read that its confusing to try and teach both inside and outside so pick one so I picked outside. I wanted them to go outside more but In Retrospect I wish I would have taught them the other way pee on paper inside then let them know it was ok to go outside. My friends summed it up best my dogs knew they were supposed to go outside but didnt know they were not supposed to go inside. It took a while for them both to get it. I was a huge buyer of natures miracle, and had a carpet cleaner when needed, mind you it was more marking than making a puddle. A good black light was my friend. I am a crazy about my house being clean. New house is all wood on first floor. I'm sure it will get better my vet said yorkies are tough. That being said and how much I hated a how much fife marked in the house, he loved to hit the bed skirt in the spare rooms, I would not complain one time if I could spend a few more months with either of my boys. I miss them terribly. My friend just ordered the potty patch it's a box with real grass, she changes it each week or so, says it's great and no smell... Her yorkie doesn't go in the house anymore, and he did for 6 years. I'm sure it will get better.

u are not a failure...my punkee princess had two accidents last night and this morning. she will not go outside in the rain...shell pee on the pee pad but she will not poo on the pad. no idea why or what bothers her about it but shes 8 years old so there you have it.

I'm still a little confused, it sounds like Peanut is marking rather than peeing. Regarding his use of the bathroom rugs, I think he may think they are pee pads, once you wash a rug, the pee scent becomes imbedded in every fiber, even though you can't smell it, he can, and he's compelled to return to the spot. We got rid of all throw rugs for about 4 years. The marking is a complex issue, it's considered "wired in" behavior and very difficult to completely eliminate. You can train a dog, not to mark in your house, but he'll want to mark in other people's homes and outside. Marking is regulated by the hormone “testosterone”, and even though the testicules make the bulk of testosterone the adrenal glands make some as well, and this hormone produces marking when they smell a certain substance, it could just be the scent of protein, and boom their brain insists they pee on it. It has nothing to do with their bladder contents and needing to urinate.


I think taking Joey for walks and allowing him to "mark" outside helps reduce his marking in the house. As far as I know he doesn’t mark in the house, but he does wear a belly band when we go to visit someone. Inside the bellyband, I keep a sanitary pad that holds any pee, should he decide to mark. I have to take it off when it's time for him to actually pee, otherwise they will use it as a diaper. If you think that Peanut doesn’t understand the basics of housebreaking, it may be time to retrain him completely, but this really sounds like a marking issue to me. By the way, he definitely was marking on the cat post, again, he has little control over this, he smells the cat urine and feels compelled to put his scent over it.

Well he will mark on my kitchen cabinets and pee everywhere else! I don’t allow him to go in the bathroom anymore- He doesn’t have access to that part of the house. That is funny you said that, that is the same thing the breeder said. The thing with training with pee pads is they sometimes mistake rugs for them.

I always wondered if I let him mark outside if that caused him to mark inside? I did the bellybands, he used them as diapers!! I honestly don’t think he understands- He will go pee or poo in the kitchen and prance over to us wanting a treat like he did something good!! It is crazy Nancy- I am at a loss with him!

LOL, dont feel bad. Mine are supposed to be potty pad trained but do twinkle sometimes where they are not suppose to. I think they do it on purpose. Josie will potty on the floor where the pads are if there is too much urine on there or poop. little Ms thang! I keep fresh pads (2x a day) out but sometimes they fill them up before I can change.
Jack sometimes marks and I have no idea why, he is neutered also.
If I catch them doing it I tell them NO or bad and they take off running. They know better.

I have to take my rugs up when I leave in the Kitchen cause Josie will pee on them if she thinks the pads are not "clean" enough for her. LOL

I also had to throw out a rug cause they had fun one day pulling the string out. Want buy them kind anymore.
Oh and they did have toys, knaw bones to chew on or play with.

LoL Well ya Momma she can not peeps on a dirty pad!! :rolleyes: Peanut doesn't really tear things up, so thats good. He will if he can get his mouth on it tear up tissue, napkins, paper plates anything like that he loves to shred! One day I came into the living room and the little turkey had a whole roll of toilet paper shredded EVERYWHERE!! LoL I have a thread on that one, it was priceless... I wasn't even mad, the face he gave me was worth it!
