Dry Skin My Trixie has very dry skin. The vet gave me Fatty Acis Caplets to give her. First question---She has pancreatitus..is this ok to give to her??? Second question---If I use "human" conditioner on her would that help?? I try not to bathe her toooo much maybe every other week or so. I tried the yorkie splash and shine last week on my guys and it was nice. I usually use milksheen on them. |
Hi! I don't know much about pancreatitus..does your vet know that your fur-baby has it when they prescribed the Fatty Acis? I would call your vet or vet tech to double check, better safe (: For the human conditioner I have never heard of that. But for me when Ralph's skin gets dry I use oatmeal shampoo, which is what they usually use at the groomers for dry dogs skin, I am assuming that would be okay for a yorkie as well but oatmeal shampoo does wonders when Ralph gets dry skin (: |
I have given my dog w/ pancreatitis fish oils only to have his blood go lipemic (fatty) on me and be too risky to continue. I would bathe every week. I find that more frequent baths help dry skin. |
Oh thanks for the responses. Yeah I just thought about those fatty acid pills. I haven't given them to her because she was on steroids and antibiotics from the itching. She is now on baby benedryl as per the doctor. It hit me this morning that those fatty acid pills might not be such a good idea with her. I hate her dry itchy skin. She is just a flakey girlie!! :rolleyes: I just thought maybe a conditioner might help calm her skin anf stop the flaking. |

What are you feeding? If there are a lot of grains in the food it could be causing some dry skin. The Yorkie Splash and Shine products are some of the best products you can use right now as far as grooming. Because they are all natural it does not have the detergents in it that most regular shampoos use so it won't strip the skin of it's natural oils. I would take a close look at what you are feeding. There is a very good supplement you could try. It has a very digestible omega 3 in it as well as enzymes and other things that are cooked out of kibble.
