Help With Coat
 
I have yorkie who has a cotton candy coat. I brush Sebi all the time, but whenever he wears any type of collar, harness, shirt he gets SO matted. Its so bad I have to just cut it out.

I have tried so many different detanglers, conditions etc....HELP.

You may have to keep your dog in a darling puppy cut - if you have a real matting problem all the time. No so bad - I think those cuts are darling.

If you have a true cotton candy coat- there is little that you can do. It is the texture that the little one's gene have determined are dominant.

The kindest thing that you can do for both of you is pick out a cut that you like and have the groomer keep her in it. You can sometimes play with the length and determine when it is getting too long and the texture is taking over.

Grooming is no fun for a baby with a cotton coat- it can become torture no matter how gentle and kind you are in grooming.

The first yorkie we had was the cottony coat and it could be a nightmare she loved to roll. It was a lot easier just keeping her groomed. I would take her every 2 - 3 months depending on how short it had been cut the previous time to have her groomed I would do maintance inbetween by keeping the hair cut out of her eyes and would definitely still keep her brushed out.

I will never forgot her getting in the pines trees and getting sap all over her and she pratically had to be shaved after that mess.

Try brushing through the hair when the conditioner is on after you shampoo. Then lightly bush again when you put the detangler one. This is what I do to Chachis hair and it is a cotton coat.

A cotton coat is a thick coat that is hard to brush through. It matts easily and doesnt brush through easily like a silk coat.

Sebi is 15 months.

Cotton candy hair is hair that very fluffy and mats very easily. I brush him daily. The hair on his head is neck is thick but silky buy on is back OMG.

I am considering getting him cut back. I did that in the summer, but it may be his way of life.

I feel for you! I too have a cotton coat! Roxie will be a year old next month. I use the CC System, but still when the hair grows out- grooming is a nightmare. Just like your baby-Roxie's hair on her head, belly and tail end is nice and silky- but the rest of her :eek: Her back actually has a slight wave pattern to it. Its gets so matted easily- especially under the arms. If I miss a day of grooming, we both pay the price. So 2 weeks ago in complete frustration I took her to the groomers and cut her completely again. I couldn't take it anymore. I had to use scissors to cut some mats out :mad: even though I comb her everyday. I have tried 3 times to let it grow out but as soon as its gets pass 3 inches its more trouble then what it is worth. I will stick with the short puppy cut. I get so envious of those who have the beautiful glossy coats but now with the cut it's so easy and we are both happier! :p

I can think of a lot worse things than a short cut! :D They look cute in a short cut and they feel like feisty puppies all of the time! Besides, there is a lot less torture involved in taking care of it. ;)

OMG poor baby. I could not even imagine. I would have to shave Sebi bald. He can't even wear a harness or collar without getting matted.

Sebi might be headed back to the groomer for a shorter do.

Talk to RedVett...Chanel and Cheri both have cottony coats. I know she swears by the Ice On Ice..but she probably could give you other tips too.

Cali has a so so coat it's not real silky but it doesn't matt much. I just received my order from Gerry of CC and Ice and Ice. I haven't given Cali a bath with it yet because she started coughing again. So I am taking her to the vet today so i thought I would try the Ice on Ice on her before I combed her today. WOW she looks great! it smoothed out th chopiness of her coat and I was able to part it in the middle and it stayed that way. I can't wait to use the shampoo!
