New to YorkieTalk Hello everyone! My name is Jody and I am new to the "yorkie" world. i have always had poodles. i am 56 years old and this has been a change for me...a change for the better!! I have had my little girl with me now for almost three months and it's like we have been together forever. The love between us and the bond we have with one another is so strong. She is very tiny though...only weighs a little over 1 pound and she will be 12 weeks old soon. but she is very healthy and spunky and the vet says he she is perfectly fine. Just little. Any advice from others that have tiny yorkies? Thanks. |
So you've had her since birth? |
Tiny Yorkies The biggest problem with my tiny yorkies is keeping them from being hypoglocemic. I free feed and that helps a lot. They dont eat very much at a time so they need it to nibble on often. Also, try not to let her up on anything high (sofa) because even though they are tiny they will try to jump like big dogs do and those little bones are fragile. They also need to be kept warm since they are so small and dont produce enough body heat. Other than that, enjoy. Julia |

Welcome to YT! There are so many knowledgeable people here it's awesome. Georgie was 1lb when we got him. There are a few pieces of advice that I can give you: 1.) Keep nutrical or karo syrup on hand. Put a little on your finger for her to lick a couple times a day. Their blood sugar can drop and they become hypoglycemic. 2.) No jumping it's so hard I know but she is just so small so stairs are awesome to get up/down on the beds, couches etc.... 3.) Any diarrhea or throwing up (sorry to be graphic) please take her to the vet. I never took my chances with Georgie he was to small for me to not get him checked and potentially treated right away if necessary. He is still to small but after 6 years you start to figure things out;) Your little furbaby will bring you so much joy and smiles they are amazing!:D |
Welcome to YT! Congrats on your little girl |

How big is Georgie now? And can you suggest a name for me? I've had this little girl for 3 weeks now and can't come u with a cute name for her. So I just keep calling her baby. but she deserves a cute girly name. thanks for all the advice. She is 1.6 right now at 12 weeks so she is gaining. She was just 1 pound when i got her. And she is just full of spunk. No climbing allowed. i don't think she knows she has legs. she is soooo spoiled. I carry her everywhere!! |
Hehe(; I joined earlier this week. (: |
