Eye "glows" after injury 3 Attachment(s) Hi Everyone: I recently put my baby girl in PetsMart daycamp for a few hours to let her play. When I picked her up, she was squinting and keeping her eye shut. The PetsMart people said they didn't know what happened. Next morning her eye was completely closed shut and crusted over. Turns out she had a puncture that became an eye ulcer. So she had to get a gel squeezed into her eyeball 4x per day (she was soooooooo not loving that! LOL) After a week of meds, she looked great, and the vet gave her the thumbs up. However, I've noticed that since the injury whenever I take her photo with a flash the previously injured eye "glows"...? This didn't happen before...? Does this mean her eye isn't really better? Has anyone had this problem? |
I am so sorry this happened to your pup - I don't have any answer for you but wanted to say that she is a cutie and I love her long tail! I hope someone has an answer for you. You may want to ask your vet about it though. |
that is so sad and such a cute pup she is. Perhaps it could have scar tissue on it, I know with eye scratches and I have had a few, if the don't heal well you are left with scar tissue. I would have the vet look at it closely again. Perhaps it is just not fully healed. |
I'd definitely get the vet to check her out....soon. |
Something doesn't seem right w/ that eye...I agree, go back to the vet asap. I hope she is okay. |
I would get it checked. Maggie often has green eyes in her photos, it is like red eye in humans. Red eye is like a reflection because the pupil is dilated. "red eye reduction" setting of the flash in a camera sets off several small flashes to get your pupils to close before the photo snaps with the real flash. Also, that's why it does't happen if full light situations. Based on that my theory is that one is dilated for some reason. Maybe it's the ointment. OR, if the puncture isn't healed over maybe extra light is getting to whatever it is that reflects when the eyes are dilated. Does that make sense? Not sure if this applies to her puncture but my brother recently had eye surgery where they implant a lens in your eye instead of lasik. A week before they did it they poked holes into his eye to help with drainage or test it or something. I mention this to say that a puncture is not necessarily going to cause a problem (depending where it is of course....and on size) but the infection is most likely the problem. How long ago was the injury? I would definitely get it checked, or at least call. Perhaps you should ask about a specialist, because it is weird that it is one eye. Final thought....do both eyes track the same, is one eye pointed more off center or anything? that could change how the light reflects, but would probably indicate a vision or muscle problem. Oh yes, Love the short haircut! I just did that to my baby and she always seems bouncier after a haircut. Looks like 2 different pups! |
I just wanted to say that she is a cutie and adorable. |
That doesn't seem right... It seems as if something is wrong. I would show your vet the picture and have them check it out soon. |
Poor baby! She is adorable. I agree with others, I would have her checked again, maybe even by an ophthalmologist. Bring the pictures with you. Max has had corneal ulcers in both eyes and his eyes do not glow in pics. How long ago was the injury? Scarring would be visible at close range, a hazy or milky white, but it is doubtful that it cover the entire eye. |
