What food does your yorkie eat? As I had two dogs and it was impossible to feed them seperatley I selected a dog food that was a good balance between the dietary needs of both of them. I selected the current food on the advice of my previous vet. Now that my sweet old girl is at Rainbow Bridge :( I am looking at purchasing a brand that would be ideal for Chloe. She is almost 3 and currently she is eating Nutrience for small dogs. I am considering grain free but want some feed back. I have no issue spending more for the best for her. I want to ensure that her diet is a very good one as I believe that the best food provides the best health. Any thoughts? |
Get your dog on a grain free kibble there are awesome products out there, Acana, Orijen, Holistic Blend all Canadian. Fromm, Go and a bunch of others, check the dog food advisory site for recommendations. Just changed Teegy to raw in February, also switched to a holistic vet as my old vet didn't believe in raw diet. That's likely because a healthy dog on raw visits the vet less!!!! I'm in Canada too, Tollden Farms (Canadian) raw, it's a balanced diet with muscle meat, organs, bones, veg, botanicals, omegas and fish oil. I recently invested in some Tripett (Canadian) canned tripe pretty much raw from dead animal to can. This contains digestive enzymes, omegas and amino acids which are great for the dogs. I of course confirmed all this with my vet first and received two glorious thumbs up. My old vet also said Teegy's teeth needed cleaning for $900 I said a few bad words. found a couple of great products Petzlife and Leba III. My new vet said nothing wrong with his teeth, keep doing what I'm doing. I also give him raw meaty frozen bones to chew on to keep his teeth clean. |
Peanut is on Acana, he has been on this food for about 3 years. I love the food quality, he loves the food! |
Grain free is the way to go. I need to find a store around here that carries Acana and Orijen. I've heard great things about those brands :) |

Thanks for the replies :) We have a new pet store opening here in Binbrook next week and I checked their product line and they are going to sell Acana so I think I will be picking some up! Thanks again, as always you guys are WONDERFUL!!:) |
I had Teegy on Orijen (part of the Acana Champion food line) . He really loved it |
I feed my dogs Taste of the Wild right now. The store where I buy my food keeps trying to get me to switch to Horizon Pulsar dog food. It is made in Canada also, but I cannot find any reviews of the food by pet owners that actually feed it. |
my lil picky eaters ...i just switched to bil and jack. i cannot believe how they are eating it all alone with no wet food needed. i had them on totw and i had to add wellness chicken soft food for them to even look at it. this by far is the only thing they have eaten this way so far. |
My only Yorkie, Prada suffers from IBS and poor digestion, so she eats Wellness simple. hugs, |
Minnie has a "cast-iron" stomach, no foods seem to bother her. I've tried dozens of dog foods and find she does best on Hills Prescription Diet R/D (reduced diet). She would put on weight quickly on some other foods, but this one seems to keep the weight off. I feed her half a cup aday split into two meals. If I feed her anymore she starts to gain weight, but the poor thing is ravenous by meal time. I don't give her treats as with the food I've tried several and they put the weight on and definitely no table scraps. The vet said if you start giving table scraps animals can develop problems like diabetes or bowel problems. Any suggestions would be welcome. I feel so guilty because she's so hungry by mealtime. |
I feed a frozen raw dog food brand but if you can't do that then I would suggest one of the grain free foods. If you can find one that uses sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes you will be going one step better. |
How often do u switch brands or flavor? I heard doing so is good for preventing food allergies. I'm about to switch from lotus to either Origen acana or Taste of the Wild for my 6 month old |
