"Dancing" Problem
 
I know humping is probably "normal" but it's not all that cute. Julian has officially started humping things now. Is there a way to stop it or at least minimize it? I've heard about getting him fixed but he is still kinda young so until then what can I do? And what if it doesn't stop or be less often after being fixed?

How old is he now? If he is anywhere beyond six months you could get him neutered and that would help the problem unless there is another issue going on with him.

We found that Ziva did this more when she was bored or overtired, mostly in the evenings. Since getting Abby we rarely see the behavior. So maybe more exercise or another puppy?:)

This might sound horrible - but Harry only ever tried it once....:)

My son was over visiting, and Harry took a 'liking' to his (very big!) foot...after a couple of movements (okay, so it's been a few years since I've had a male dog :D) it dawned on me what was going on - and I said 'NO' in a very stern voice.

My son pulled his foot away at the same time - and it's never happened since...well, it worked for us! :) Sally + Harry x

We he will be 6 months April 2nd so I'm not sure if we want to get another puppy right now. But we can try exercise.

cedric humped all his toys before getting neutered. he was aggressive about it. he never tried to mount punkee princess or anything but thankfully he stopped right after being neutered and has not done it since. he was 4lbs and 9 months old when he got neutered. good luck as nothing i tried helped as he was trying to tell his toys he was the boss and he was mean to them. lol

One time I caught him in the act of it and I said no Julian and he just looked at me and kept going.

He isn't humping toys. He has this towel in his crate and he will pull it out of the crate to hump it. Or if I lock the crate door he will try to pull it through the openings in the crate

Good point! When his previous "mommy" gave him to me, he came with this old Santa hat that he would try to hump and I took that from day one and it stopped until he started humping his bed every now and then. Now it's his towel. But I will take it out. I try not to buy him toys half his size or bigger to try to avoid this.

Neutering isn't always the cure-all. Lots of dogs (boys and girls - fixed or not fixed) hump. My dads spayed female is our worst! Jackson is neutered and 3 years old and still occasionally humps his stuffed toy (I allow it, because he doesn't do it anywhere else, or to humans or other dogs). But you will have to train it as a behavioral problem.

Agree completely. I think it's a dominance thing. Georgie will hump our 75lb Boxer's nose!!!!
