Does anyone have any GREAT advice to kill bad breath?!? ALL of my Yorkies have bad breath! Even the puppies (4 months old and 6 months old). I do have doggie toothpaste but would like to know if anyone has tried a product that they are THRILLED with. Mav & Mercedes love to chew on the strings when I am wearing a hoodie...will sit on my lap forever....however, I get to the point I start getting sick from their nasty breat. PLEASE HELP!!!! |
I was searching threads for this the other day, as my oldest Sheltie has some bad breath... I found that 8 in 1 Breath TABS were recommended. I guess they work on the animals system and you notice a difference in a couple of days. But all I've been able to find is the 8in1 Breath MINTS. I'll go back and do the search and let you know.. |
I use Oxyfresh pet oral hygriene solution. Just put about an ounce in their water bowl every other day, and they have fresh, clean breath. Even my husband noticed the difference. http://www.oxyfreshww.com/pet/petoralhygiene.asp Good luck! Cyndie Trevor's Mom |

The Dr Fosters and Smith online catalog has Fresh breath Tablets. |
Thanks you guys! I went online and saw the 8 in 1 sweet breath tabs. I just wanted to save the time and effort of finding out which products work and which ones don't. I'd love to put something in their water every other day. Does it by chance help with tartar also? |
Hope someone comes up with a safer Greenie-like product soon. Bull penis is just not doing the trick  |
OMG!!!! Bull Penis!!!???? LOL!!!!!!!! I can't imagine going into a store and asking for THAT!!!!! :D |
They usually call them bully sticks or pizzle sticks and mine love them...The cow hoofs seem to work well on keeping the tartar down, but regular brushing and the yearly dental done at the vets ($ouch) are the only long lasting solutions we found so far. |
OOOOOOHHHHH, I never read the bully sticks threads and had no idea what they were. I'll be darned. |
Well, you might not be willing to switch foods but if you are, I can recommend Hill's Perscription Diet T/D. It is a food specially designed to keep teeth clean. Edie has eaten this since she was a year old, and now she is 5. The vet said she has NEVER seen a small dog with better teeth, and that Edie might NEVER require a dental cleaning. The food is large chunks, and they clean the teeth when they are bitten into. I have offered Edie other foods, but this is her favorite. |
Oh my!!! What in the heck is bull penis?? Quote:

That is what Bully sticks are. Dogs love them. We are all soooo happy to have something safe that keep our babies busy, but they are made from bull penis. Not kidding. |
Oh my I don't know about bull sticks curing bad breath, maybe giving it. Mac & Mellie love the dog breath mints, and they smell really good to me at least. |
Breath Busters, their dog biscuts. You can get them at the grocery store in the dog food section. |
Sick I still do not want to accept the BULL PENIS thing...SICK SICK SICK!!!!!!!!!! |
I brush my dogs teeth 3 times a week. They haven't gotten bad breath yet. |
Brush those teeth! I use all natural burt's bees safe-to-swallow toothpaste. I can't stand those chicken/beef doggie toothpastes. As long as it's SAFE-TO-SWALLOW toothpaste you can use that. I also give Bounce a greenie twice a week and he gets 4 Talk To Me treats a day. They are these little bone shaped treats that have a minty taste. Bouncer LOVES them. You can get both Greenies and Talk To Me treats at PetCo or Petsmart. And I brush Bounce's teeth everyday. |

Well, I went online and read about the Oxyfresh...liked what I read....then went to Ebay to see if I could find it there. I got a nice combo package that would have cost like $51.00 if sold seperately for $20.50....and less $$ on the shipping. Thank you to everyone who replied, it is MUCH appreciated :) |
I use C.E.T. vanilla-mint 2 times a week and give Greenie bits every morning. As Gus got older his breath was getting pretty stinky. But we got it under control now. As far as having his teeth cleaned,,, I feel like a bad mommy. I am going to take him in after the holidays. It is rather costly. His teeth look good because I stay on top of it but I know there are some places I just can't get to where the vet can. |
If they have really bad breath, they probably need a professional cleaning. I've heard about a new sealant treatment called OraVet I'm going to look into. Jen |
They are young (4 and 6 months old) and their teeth are white as can be. |

Maybe you're just sensitive to odor. They shouldn't have bad breath at that age. Possible tonsilitis. I'd have the vet take a look. Jen |
Logan's breath got really stinky right after he got all his grown up teeth. It smelled like he was eating poop while we were gone or something. I got toothpaste (from petsmart) and doggie mouthwash) and brushed his teeth after his bath on thurs. and his breath has been much better since. The doggie mouthwash is supposed to help with tarter also. |

true. my original statement was that I wanted something greenie-like to help b/c bull penis didn't help. seems like bully sticks are the only chewie thing that my dog is interested in, besides greenies. Greenies really kept her teeth clean and gave her better breath. Puppies REALLY have major bad breath when teething, it gets better. I am NOT advising anyone to use greenies. |
