wecoming home a new baby pup Thank you all who had commented on my thread about are two yorkies better then one .... my next question would be if i do plan on getting this new puppy, how can i help to make chester my 5 month old yorkie get along with the new puppy who will be 3 months old ? how can i make chester feel that with the new addition to thew family he doesnt have to worry about feeling left out ? thanks again:D |
Personally, at Chester's age, I seriously doubt you'll have an issue. At 14 months, old, Brody came to live with us. We got Mia 3 months later when both Brody and Mia (6 days older than Brody) were both 17 months old. Brody was attached to us already, even after only 3 months, but not like he might have been after 1 or more years of being 'only' with us. Adding a puppy to a puppy household will likely be just plain ol' fun for both puppies, but having Chester already, he will be able to acclimate the new puppy quickly...which will also help you out with loneliness issues. Congratulations! |
I don't think a pup Chesters age will have too much trouble adjusting- but I did wash all my dogs with the same shampoo the next day- they were sniffing at Abby so oddly, the baths seemed to help! |
wish i had an answer i need help with that question right now.. cozmo has never used his lead as much as he does now since i have new babies.. he just want to get at them and rip them apart..he even growls at me for playing with them.. he loves other dogs but not if they are in his house. i am working diligently to get him to accept them and im positive in time it will happen, i should not have waited so long before i got newbies like i said in ur last thread.. ur doing the right thing by getting them all around the same age..good luck.. |
My dogs were 8 years old when we brought little Teddy home. They didn't accept him at first, and I kept the puppy separated in his own room for several weeks. Once they realized the intruder wasn't leaving, they started to interact with him under supervision. It took my female about 3 months to accept Teddy but my male took much longer - about 6 months. It was their dynamic to work out, I just made sure they were safe and supervised. With puppies this young, I'd keep an eye on them, but I too doubt you'll have any issues. |
