Need puppy treat suggestions! We will be getting our new puppy this week and I would LOVE to hear which treats are best for them! I would like to use them during the potty training process! Thanks in advance! |
We use Wellness WellBites and Wellness Pure as treats. They are soft treats that are about the size of a quarter, and I break them each into 5 or more pieces and use them as training treats. They LOVE them, and when you break them into tiny little pieces, they go pretty far. |
chachi likes salmon treats |
So does Pluto. But man do some of them stink. :D Quote:

freezed dried liver but they are pretty pricey so you can make your own...i found several recipe online...minus the garlic powder...wasn't too sure how safe that was. the longer you bake them then harder and drier they get...but be sure to dry them out completely to prevent them from spoiling. |

I'd recommend choosing a couple of treats. One to use just for when your baby is doing something adorable....like breathing.....and one, more high value treat, to use just for potty training. My two go absolutely nuts over boiled chicken. Boil two or three boneless breasts in plain water, no salt no seasoning, and when they're cool cut them into bite sized pieces. You can make up a big batch and separate it into small freezer bags and just pull out a bag as you need it. Smaller bags don't take long to thaw or you can nuke it for a few seconds to thaw it. |
Thank you so much everyone!! Can't wait to go shopping for our new baby in a few days!! |
For training I just put some kibble with a piece of beef jerky thrown in (to add good smell) in a tupperware container. Other times I give him green beans. |
buddy biscuits are great, they are hard and soft ones, good stuff as well |
Are cheerios ok for them |

I'm probably gonna catch some flak here from other members, all the suggestions are good, but here is what has worked for me. Experiment, find something the puppy will do ANYTHING to get. One of mine goes nuts for potato chip crumbs, and the other would bake a cake for a lick of peanut butter off my finger. Just be sure they don't know you have the special goodies until they have done what you ask them to do. Hope this helps, and guys don't hate me cause I treat my guys with junk food.....they are as crazy about them as humans. |
We use Wellness wellbites also, Louie loves them. |
my babies will do anything for chicken nibbles, they are dried chicken. also i used a loaf of dog food, i think it was called natures balance ?? i cut it in small bite sized pieces, they loved that too, worked for training, & they saw it as a great treat not food that was good for them. It was always recommended to me to cook chicken & cut it up & put it in baggies & freeze. take out as needed, its good for them & a lot cheaper than buying the freeze dried chicken. good luck |
