When will they bark? My baby is almost 12 weeks and has yet to bark.My husband say's that's a good thing.lol But I think he should be barking or play growling at this age. |

Riley didn't bark but he would play growl only a teeny weeny bit!! He will be 2-years old, in May and he barely barks!! Even if there are a ton of dogs around him barking.... He just kind of looks at them like they are crazy. He is really low key. I really lucked out!! |
Brutus is almost 16 weeks and hasn't barked, fine by me! he does growl though. |
Just depends on the puppy. Lilo never barked when she was younger... Leo barked only when he wanted to play with his sister which and now never barks.... My friends new puppy who is 15!weeks is a super barker and barks at everything. Lol I prefer the quiet but you never know... I know a puppy that never barked but once it hit 6 months old it became a barking maniac and learned to howl last week :) |
Shhhh...don't let on that you've noticed. :D I agree with your husband. Your baby has his own line that he will bark for...be thankful that line has not been breached. Brody didn't bark hardly at all...at first...either. Then we got Mia and she taught him to bark...at every sound and every thing. So now, when a kitty jumps down and makes that soft little thud on the floor...! :confused: When one of them sees one of us coming around a back corner of the house...! :confused: When the monsters (garbage cans) are put out by the street...? :confused: When the (monsters) garbage cans are NOT out by the street anymore...? :confused: When either sees a bicyclist riding down the street...! :eek: And, Mia continues to "huff" and/or "chuff" lonnggg after the barking is over and the "threat" (see above) is over and done with and long gone. Okay...you get the picture, so repeat after me: "All hail the quiet Yorkie!" :p Tiptoeing away so as not to start them barking...:D |
In my experience, many dogs may bark some or even quite a bit out of nerves at the new sounds of a new home and then go quiet for a time, not really becoming a normal barker until they begin to "own" or feel as if their home and immediate property is theirs. Once a new dog accepts his surroundings as his own territory, he will usually begin to defend it by barking. Other, more nervous dogs will bark at almost anything from the beginning and from then on. |
When I went to see Levi @ the breeder today he was barking a little, it was so cute but will keep an eye on that when he gets home |

Be careful what you ask for LOL Georgie is a barky smurf as my husband calls him:) He has gotten better but our Boxer is so quiet compared to him. I agree with your hubby! |

Callie didn't bark for an extremely dog time we had even asked the vet if she was ok. She still very rarely ever barks and we know if she does its something big and always run to find her. |

Roxy was several months old before she barked. She's not an obsessive barker which I really appreciate. Yours will find his voice when he's ready. Don't worry about it... enjoy it. |
On the one hand, I agree with your husband. On the other hand, an argument could be made that teaching them to speak on command as pups may be helpful in teaching them to be quiet on command. Max let out one little bark in his first 6 months. When he was neutered, he barked his way out of the vet's office. :) Then he was quiet again until he was a year old. He is an alarm barker now. Teddy was quiet until he was almost 2. He can be very talkative in the car. :p |

I got Sophie Kate when she was 3 months old, it took her exactly 15 minutes to start barking and has not stopped yet. You should knock on wood and hope your baby did not hear that you noticed the lack of barking. |

ZoE hardly made a peep for months....then she learned how to bark. Now she won't shut up!!! She barks at her own reflection in anything, mirror, window, stainless appliances, fireplace glass, etc. She barks at animals on tv, people walking outside, squirrels & birds she see out the window, and she went absolutely nuts the other night barking at a moth that was flying around an outside light. And this makes me feel horrible to type, (like I'm saying I don't like my child's voice...) but I can't stand the sound of her bark :eek: It's not a cute lil yip like my last yorkie....it's a full-on dog bark. If she was behind anything other than a glass door, so you couldn't see her...you'd be afraid to open the door if you heard her bark. She sounds like she means business. Enjoy the quiet & be thankful your pup isn't barking...YET :D |
