Grooming Bands/Bows Hi Everyone. I ordered some grooming bows on eBay for CoCo, but whoever made them used some old rubberbands that are/were dryrotting!!! Needless to say, I told them about it and asked for my money back because the bands kept breaking. I broke 7 of them before I could even get one on CoCo. So, for the ones that break, does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do with the bows or how I can still use them? The bows are great, but it doesn't look like I can "re-band" them. Any suggestions? I was thinking of glueing alligator clips, but not sure if that is a good idea or not. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance. |
Good grief! That's dreadful! I suppose you could glue clips on the back, but I am curious why you cannot re-band them. |
Well, it looked like the rubberband was wrapped around the ribbon, but then a small rosette is glued on top of the ribbon & rubberband. (I think) |
2 Attachment(s) Just curious~don't you place a band in the hair and then put the bow on top the your topknot? There is no excuse why 7 bands would have broken while placing on the already make topknot. Personally, I always use clip on bows. I make my topknot and then clip the bow on the front through the hair. It stays in place until I want to take it out and it's always nice and straight. I hope this eBay seller does the right thing and fixes your issue. Personally, I love BowBiz! You should check her out on here and she always offers a discount for YT members. :) |
Thanks a bunch for explaining! The picture reference was a big help too. I am sooooo new at this. My baby just now has enough hair to make a little "something" up top. :embarasse LOL Ok, so....let me get this straight, I should be making a plain topknot first, then using the bow just for decoration (more or less). I guess that would make more sense. BUT, her rubberbands were substandard. She ended up refunding me after I sent her a message about it, and I don't see her selling anymore bows on eBay either. |
I order my bows from Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz and they are wonderful. She makes them up fresh with fresh bands. |

Since the bands already broke, if you want to re-band, can you de-glue or otherwise remove the embellishments, then apply new bands (2, or maybe 3 so there are spares...get the little bands), then re-apply the embellishments? |

I went to my local beauty supply store and I was able to find the bands that I wanted for $1 a box!!!! I got barettes and everything. I even got an aluminum comb. Ladies, don't forget about your local beauty supply stores. :) |

The Bow Biz site has some good instructions with pictures and video to show you how to create your topknot and place your bow. How To Put In Dog Bows : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz I have been using the clip on or french barrettes lately. It's just kind of quick and easy. I just have to keep an extra close eye on her when she has any kind of bow in. She may leave it in for hours and then wander off and decide to take it out by herself. That can be really dangerous so if we are only hanging out at home I usually just have her grooming bands in. |
