Anxiety Maggie has been making me feel REALLY guilty lately... to the point where i've missed a class here and there. When she knows I'm leaving she sits at the top of my stairs and starts to shake. Not siezure shake..but just quiver. I don't leave her for all that long an hour here and there... the longest i've left her is 3 or 4 hours because of work and not finding someone to sit with her. Also, I give her a treat before I leave and when I come home it's still in the same spot. She gets to nervous to even eat her treat while I'm gone. :( Do any of you have suggestions (besides a babysitter..because I DO have one sometimes, but that's hard to work out all the time)? Don't hate me because I have to leave her alone. It's never drawn out periods of time, but I absolutely cannot take her to work or class. I have a roommate, but she basically doesn't live with me anymore (she hasn't stayed overnight for over 3 weeks now..just stays at her parents house). It was nice having her around because she didn't work and would hang out with maggie when i was gone. |
Oh poor little Maggie! Honestly Sam, Simon would do that as well because he was not used to me leaving and he still (a year later) hides when I put my watch on because he knows that means I'm leaving! Does Maggie have run of your apartment? Maybe confining her to a smaller space would make her feel more secure and comfortable. Also maybe try practicing leaving, go through the motions and leave for a few minutes at a time increasing it each time. I did this with Hallie just so she would know I was coming back. Do you leave the tv or radio on for her? Or give her a kong filled with peanut butter to keep her busy? Just ideas! Simon said to tell Maggie she can come over and stay with him when you are gone and they can snuggle together ;) |
I am home with Cali alot, I took a very early forced retirement last January and I have always worked when I had my other puppies and they did fine. But I notice with Cali the more I am with her the more upset she gets when I leave. I am trying to make sure I leave her for a couple of hours each day so she gets use to it. Even thoguh I feel so guilty. But I have another dog and my dtr or husband are home some of the time with her. I do keep her in her playpen with her favorite toy and blanket, |
