Car Sickness Tootsie just turned 1 on the 13th and still gets car sick. We cant ride 2 miles with out her throwing up. Her vet said she will out grow it by a year. Has anyone else had a yorkie or other dog out grow car sickness! I was hoping to take her with me a lot this summer. |
My 4 1/2 year old, Xavier, never really outgrew his car sickness. We have tried EVERYTHING possible, with no luck. (The anti-nausea pills from the vet do help, but those are a last resort for us.) Last fall, we had to do a large amount of traveling and he did a little better than usual....but still vomitted frequently. I hope your Tootsie does outgrow it!! |
Abby(8 months) just had to miss a meet-up with her littermates at a dogpark 45 minutes away because she gets sick, sick sick... we have a raised carseat and all- she just keeps throwing up long after you would think she could. I didn't know that they could grow out of it? that would be great! |
Don't know if you tried this but perhaps frequent short rides might be helpful. There is also a product called Composure Treats that were recommened for stress so perhaps something like this might also be an idea. They are all natural. I can either get them at the vets office or on line. My girls love them. |
My shaffer outgrew being car sick after about a year. Vet suggested daily car ride for ten minutes, so everyday we went in the car, he had a car seat he could look out not sure that helped but safety first. This may sound odd but the vet told me always tell him where we were going and how long we were going to be in the car, at first he never got sick to the groomers, it was about a 20 min ride, he often got sick on longer rides to our beach house, but after about a year and a daily car ride he didn't get sick anymore. I took him in the car often so I was very happy. He was always a nervous dog never loved the car like my other two but he didn't hate it or get sick anymore. Maybe you could try Rescue remedy. I never used for car rides but did use when I first got Cooper he lived in a cage for two years before I rescued him, it seems to calm him down a bit. |
I can see that a dog who is nervous in a car would get carsick, but is it always that? (Sorry if this is a stupid question.) |
