CANT MOVE peepad..suggestions?
 

Pheobes 100% peepad trained, rarely, she will poop on the edge due to "movement" while going #2. But, anywho, using the peepad isnt the issue. She is very persistant with using the area right in front of my kitchen sink. When we moved, a year and a half ago, i had the peepad off to the side. She just decided to go on the rug right in front of my kitchen sink. well, cleaned that up, but she did it again!!! so, i got a new rug hoping that would help. NOPE. she just did it again.. so, naturally, i placed the darn peepad on the rug. i thought i would be able to move the peepad gradually to the spot i wanted it. THAT DIDNT WORK EITHER. she just kept pottying in the center of the rug!! SO then, i said, screw it...AWAY WITH THE RUG. I took the rug away completely and tried my first attempts at a solution over. SAME RESULT. She WANTS to go in front of the sink. I dont get it. Im so frusterated and upset about this problem. I HAVE to have a peepad in front of my sink. It makes me look ridiculous in front of company and its just generally frusterating to have to avoid it at all times. My boyfriend is convinced Pheobe is PURPOSELY being a naughty girl( thats NOT his term for it, his is a little more R rated). We've both become accustomed to it, but thats not the point. Its gunna be a bummer if this is something i MUST live with.... I refuse to have to SELL MY HOUSE AND MOVE to fix this .... :eek: MAYBE thats her motive.. Hahahah

I have NO explanation for this, and i am just HOPING someone has some advice or at least a same situation... SOMETHING.

anyone dealt with the going outside and then coming inside and going immediately after?? ex: pheobe will poop outside and then after coming back inside she will pee.

Ive spent a lot of time watching her. she will go outside, then wander around...la-dee-da. after a while.. she comes to the door. barks or just waits. then just shortly after coming in she will go. why didnt she do that outside?? what the heck girl!!

I don't have any advice but I would like to hear what others have to say..... I have Riley's peepee pad/litter box in the very corner of my dining room. It isn't all that noticeable but I have thought about moving it to the bedroom but just haven't yet because I am afraid of the same thing.

My parents have a miniature poodle and they have to have the peepee pad in front of their guest bathroom sink..... for the same reason!!
Well, I did not know that and I was sleeping over a few months back and went walking in there with my socks on and stepped right into the middle of it, into a pee spot!! UUGGHH!!!! I Was Not Happy!!

Ohhhh Yeah... Now Riley will do that!!

I live on the 5th floor of a condo building in the middle of the city.
I will take him for walks and he will poop And pee outside.... then we get back inside and he will pee again on his pad. I think he does that though because he knows he gets a treat when he goes on his pad. Although I have not been giving him a treat, every time, now.

During the day when I am at work, he will hold it all day until I get home.... but when I am home, he will use the pad a few times.... and they will be like Dime Spots!! That is when I realized he is probably doing it for a treat....because he will run over to me immediately after... I will get up to make sure he went..... and a few times when he has even faked it. I have watched him run into his box and pretend to go then come running over to me for a treat. I go over and look, and there is nothing!! He is too smart, sometimes!

I'm thinking you need to order one of those custom made washable fabric pee pads in a pretty pattern & colour that coordinates with your kitchen...

so a potty pad looks nice infront of your sink :D

My one suggestion would be to start moving her pad but only move it inches at a time . Even it it takes you a week to move it a few inches. If you can move it slowly but surely who cares if it takes a month, but treat everytime she hits the pad!

Bella will sometimes pee outside but then come back in the house through the dog door to poop in the house! Bella prefers to poop in private I think and she will come back in while I have the others outside:eek:
So now when we go out I block the dog door and just wait her out. That is working for us.

I would put her on it every so often or show it to her.... point and tell her to go potty.... if you catch her going on it... make it a huuuge deal... like you are soooo overly excited and telling her she is a good girl and treat.
Maybe even get some of the stuff you spray that attracts them to go on it.

When I go to my parents, or over to a friends.... I will put a pad down and continually show Riley where it is... I always point at it and tell him... Riley, You Go Potty There... just to make sure he knows where it is..... He has always been good to go. [Knock On Wood.... ] LOL!!!!

Personally I would remove ALL area & throw rugs & put the peepad where you want it. I have seen this so many times & I think the pup thinks that those rugs are just a different kind of pee pad & then they are put where the dogs pee pad used to be witch is where the dog is used to doing their business. Kinda confusing for the dog. As far as doing part of their business outside & finishing inside, take the dog outside & while they are actually in the act of doing their business tell the dog good boy/girl go potty/poop outside. I have always used this method & never had it fail me & it also teaches them to potty/poop on command witch is really nice when you are in a hurry.

How about moving the rug and the pee pad together a couple inches at a time. Maybe leaving the pee pad on a rug will help.

thanks for the replies!! I HAVE tried moving the peepad gradually. no luck. and also have removed the rugs. im going to try moving the rug along with the peepad. Im also going to buy a special rug that stays with the peepad, maybe even let her pee on that specific rug and leave the pee on it and move it along with the pad!!!just to keep the scent with THAT rug, not the one i WANT clean. LOL its funny.. the things we go through for these little stinkers!!

you guys have sparked some new ideas!! if i am successful, i will definately let you guys know.

as far as putting her on the pad, and telling her to go. or that shes a good girl, if i put her on the pad and tell her to go, she will just sit down or lay down and look at me.. like im stupid. lol. shes ridiculous.... i just love my little brat..shes sucha stubborn butthead.

Put a large carboard box or something that totally covers the rug so that she can't get to it and put the peepad next to the rug. You will have to move the box to get to the sink it is true but if she cannot get to the area in front of the sink, she will have to use the next best place and eventually that area can be boxed/moved, whatever.

They do know how to get their own way, don't they? Snoopy picked his spot in the kitchen, so we finally figured to just put the pad there. Who's trained? Haha!;)

Maybe you could put something in front of the sink when you're not using it, that would block her off, or be unpleasant to stand on. They make those bristly mats to put outside in front of your door to scrape mud off on.

Wow, it's nice to know that we're somewhat "normal" in this house! I've always had good luck with potty training my pets, but my "twins" are a whole new story! We have pee pads at the foot of our bed, and just can't seem to get away from it. I suspicion it is mostly our little boy. I watch all 4 go outside, and the girls will go out by themselves even in the rain, but Guner will poke his nose out the door, and turn around to wait til no one is looking. I've never caught him in the act, and we have given him loads of praise when he does go outside, but we still can not get rid of the pee pads. I also do not have throw rugs around the house. I actually had to put a "baby fence" up around our dinning room when they were younger to break the habit of going in there. We lived with an ugly fence that we needed to crawl over for months, but it worked. Good luck, and thanks all of you for making me feel like I'm not just a "bad" Mom :)

I can tell you about the kitchen rug problem. Most of those throw rugs for bathroom and kitchen have a rubber backing that has some sort of chemical in them that smells like urine to cats and dogs. It seems to attract some more than others. I gave up on being able to have a kitchen rug long ago and I always hang my bathroom mat on the side of the tub after use. Those rag rugs are OK but I don't care for them much.

It may be that your little girl got so used to using that spot in front of the sink that by the time you got rid of the rug it was just an area that she was trained to. Someone else suggested moving it a couple of inches at a time and I agree. I used to have a pee pad in the frame in my bedroom when Gracie was a pup. When I decided she was old enough to use just the other pad near the door I was greatly disappointed. She would pee on the rug right where the pee pad had been in the bedroom. I had to bring the pad back and ever so slowly move it toward the other pee pad. It took a couple of weeks to get it to where I wanted it. They are creatures of habit. Moving the pee pad an inch or two at a time and leaving it there for several days at a time will help her accept the move slowly.

Although these little darlings are very smart and even emotional I don't believe they want to displease us in any way. They just have a way of thinking and reasoning that sometimes we don't understand and they surely don't understand how we try to communicate with them many times.

When a dog goes out to go pee it does not always empty it's self totally at first especially if they have had a bit more to drink or have been holding it for a while. We want them to go and get it over with but little dogs have little bladders and although they may empty the bladder the kidneys may still be filling the bladder with more urine so they may need to pee several times in a fairly short time period. If you take them for a walk you will see them peeing quite a bit and generally by the time you get home they are set for a while. The exercise does get the body's systems working faster. When they just go outside for a short time their little kidneys are still busy even though they have come back in.

I know how maddening it is to wait for them to get it all done but they don't know much about time and schedules and they sure don't know about what is going on in their kidneys.
