Getting to know you... (Patience update) 4 Attachment(s) What a whirlwind couple of days we've had. Tuesday I flew from Baltimore to Detroit, and back again, to pick up our new fur baby, Patience from Lori. Wednesday hubby and I flew with all three dogs, in cabin, (what were we thinking?) to the Florida Keys. It was a 2.5 hr. plane ride, and another 1.5 car ride, with 8.5 hrs. of total travel time. Patience was an angel. She did so well, and I was so proud of her, as this must all be so confusing for her. She didn't get much of a birthday party for her 1st birthday that day, but she did get some treats of boiled chicken and a few bites of cake, which she loved. We had a nice long walk by the ocean for a couple hours before dark. She was curious about all the new smells and checking out critters like the geckos and pelicans. I know she was thinking "what are those giant birds"? Yesterday we went to the vet for a check up. Patience weighed in at a whopping 2.14 lbs. She got a clean bill of health (yay!), and we were able to discuss microchipping, flea and heart worm prevention. All of these things worry me because she is so tiny. She also had her rabies shot. I over reacted, flinched and cried, but she did not. What a good girl. So far, she seems fine, and there has been no bad reactions (yay!), so we spent the whole afternoon outside again. We took a nice walk and she did lots of exploring. She even tasted (and loved) homemade apple sorbet from the French bakery. Her hair gets so dirty here. The heat, the constant ocean breeze and salt air always make her look like a tangled, hot mess, and no matter how often she gets brushed, she looks ill kept. Sadly, I think we may need to be practical and opt for cutting down her beautiful show coat in favor of a low maintenance puppy cut. Patience has made lots of new friends already, and everyone she sees falls in love with her. Word travels quickly here, and the neighbors have been stopping by to meet and welcome her to the community. I am so blessed to have my sweet little love bug in my life. She has such a bubbly, friendly little personality. We are going slowly, getting to know more about each other, building trust and a bond. She already adores hubby, and he is just enchanted with her, which makes my heart sing. I think Lori was right. It was a match made in heaven. I so love our new little fuzzy faced, angel girl. Thank you, Lori, for making my dream come true! |
congrats on your beautiful new girl. she is so sweet... |
She is beautiful! It looks like she's settling in pretty well. Enjoy your new baby!!! :) |
Aw! She's a cute little hot mess! I can't wait to meet her! |
Congrats! You are right about what a whirl wind trip  So glad everything went smooth. How is it going with her new siblings? |
Lola, the Shih Tzu- Maltese, tried to play with Patience, but it frightened her, so Lola backed off. Lucy walks with her and sniffs her, but doesn't interact much. Come to think of it, Lucy doesn't interact much with anyone because she is so old and senile. Still, I do think they both like her, and are just giving her space. My mom has a Schnauzer, and she also gets along fine with her too. So far, so good. That's a big relief. |
It looks like your hubby has already decided that Patience is gonna be a "Daddy's Girl". :D I love the pics of them together - he looks so proud and is obviously taken with her. I'm glad to hear everyone's settling in well. Sounds like she has a wonderful new family! |
she is gorgeous. so glad your travel went ok! have a fun time!! |
She is so CUTE, what a little doll. I agree she is destin to be a Daddys Girl (I love seeing men loving on little dogs, it warms my heart). |
She is adorable and so happy for your family.. |
I am so green w envy that you are the new mother to beautiful patience! :p;) Such a lovely girl! Seriously, it is good to hear she has gone to a wonderful home where she will be given great care and lots of love! It looks like she is very happy! |
Kim, I am so glad she did well on her flight to Florida and is settling in nicely with you and George and Lucy and Lola. I was reading your post and tears of joy are falling, I am so glad that she is with you both and obviously having a great time. Thank you for being her new forever home. I am sure she will look adorable in a puppy cut and will probably feel better to. |
I am so happy that you are already loving up that little girl! i can't believe that Peppermint is just a tiny bit smaller than her now considering both the sisters were so much bigger than her when they were born! Did she get sick on the flight at all? Peppermint gets car sick once in a while but i haven't had her on a flight yet. i know what you mean about the coat. i tried to let Pep grow her coat but i couldn't handle the upkeep. she is a little miss mesy face even with a puppy cut! lol. i am so happy that you are getting to experience the love of a little one from Lori's litter too! these are defenitely special little girls that we have! |
What a beauty. Congrats |
I Love the pics with your husband walking her. Real men love yorkies!!! |
