To spay or not to spay? Let me start by saying i have no intention to ever breed Millie. When I first got Millie I thought that I would Not spay her. She does not go outside unless she is on a lead or in a fenced area and I am always with her, so I thought to myself why put her through that when I didn't see the need. Millie is also the first female dog I have had in my adult life, so I will admitt I do not know much about when they go into heat. So in advice on that is well needed. However now I am wondering bout spaying her? I would like to add a 2nd yorkie to our home within the year. I know if I chose a buy at least one of them would need to be fixed. So my question is should I spay? |
Spay! There are high chances of them getting mammary cancer and possible other risks to not spaying. |
The answer is that you will not always be with Millie...plain & simple. It's too easy to say I will always be there to keep our dog from harms way but, that just isn't realistic thinking. You won't. It only takes a second or two and then you've defeated your whole theory of you will always be there. Then...you'll have a whole new bag of tricks to contend with...and it's a burden for Millie and yourself to have to go through. Be safe for Millie & yourself and spay.;) |
yes , you should definetly spay her . just because you are not going to breed her is not a reason not to spay. unspayed females are at a high risk of mammary cancer, pyometra and probably other things i have not heard of. speak to your vet and find out what would be the safest time to spay. you want to make sure she is old enough and weighs enough... |
I think spaying and neutering is very important. Also I think they are healthier in the long run. |
if you are not breeding , is best of spay, it will prevent mamary cancer and Pyometra, which is a horrible infection and your girl can die from it, so please have your girl spay as soon as you can.. hugs and best of luck.. |

Thank you very much I didn't know about the types of cancers. So I will defently have her spayed. I am new to the yorkie breed so I have a lot to learn that is why I am so grateful to have found YT |
Thank You for having her spayed. I honestly believe (dogs) Yorkies should be neutered or spayed; Yorkies that are going to be deliberately mated selectivity are the only exception. |

Spay, for sure! By the next day you will be fighting with her to keep her from jumping off the furniture. They recover so quickly, and much better for her. |

Millie has a vet appointment next week, she is only 13 weeks right now, but am going to ask when she could be spayed,.- I am thinking it is arou nd 6 months, but not sure. Thanks again for the advice!!! |
All responsible pet owners should spay and neuter. Spaying a female before her first heat keeps from getting certain cancers and lowers her risk of getting other cancers. Also what if some one broke into your house and took her and then used her in a puppy mill or if she got out and someone did the same. With boy dogs they will do some crazy things to get to a female in heat and will runaway sometimes and mark everything. |
