Do our yorkies get hair balls too? Last night daisy woke me up making this weird noise..almost like she had a hairball? I put her down on the floor (didn't want her throwing up in my bed!) and she seemed ok..few minutes later , did it again. Took her into the kitchen for some water, but like usual, didn't want it(this dog hardly drinks!) Sat up with her a bit, she did the noise once more, than that was it. Then I just took her outside and she did it once again. Its weird? can they get hairballs to? |
Only if she is a cat . |
Never heard of a dog getting a hairball. |
Ok, it wasn't meant as a sarcastic post..I just didn't know...couldn't think of why else she was making that gagging sound. Thanks. |
Mine makes a gagging sound too once in a while. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's a tickle in their throat? Something got stuck a little? I don't think it would be a hairball. |
Hmmm I don't know what it could be?? My poodle gags once in awhile also, but its usually after he's been running and playing, after he gets a drink hes fine. |
It could be something Yorkies do that is called reverse sneezing. I don't know how to post a link, but if you did a search you should be able to find information on it. |
I think that sometimes they get cold when not covered at night and their throats get scratchy or sometimes they might have tonsillitis. You could try a little children's benedryl in a dropper and see if that alleviates the problem. |
Maggie was doing this A LOT a few months back. I was really nervous that she had Kennel Cough or something. I wanted to get it taken care of ASAP because I knew the cold weather was coming and if she did, that wouldn't help. PLUS, I was told it could turn into pneumonia. Our vet is our neighbor and a friend of ours so we took her in the next day. He said I did the right thing by bringing her in but there's nothing to worry about. he said that it's common for Yorkies to do this because their trachea is more of an oval shape than round. Search on the internet a little and I bet you can find something on it. Hopefully, that's all it is..I'm sure Daisy will be fine :) |
My Typo just threw up a firball just like a cat mixed with some yellow liquid which i now know thats bile, anyway i had a hard time trying to get some water into his system, but a few minutes later he was eating his food, should i be worried? he is running and playing like always |
Ahi only once has hacked up a furball. It was a day after she was groomed. She made gagging sounds and YAK...up came a little hairball with some liquidy stuff.ewww. Never happened again. |
Tibbe has hacked on several occasions over the years & I made him let me check on more than one occasion but never saw anything. I always wondered if he had a hair in his throat as he seemed to be trying to expel something so small it couldn't be seen & yet clingy - kind of like hair or hairs would be. |
In my opinion If you have a hair eater I don't see why they wouldn't get furrballs... Yumi eats any hair she can get her mouth on, mine, my husband's, Yuri's hers when shes groomed, she isn't picky. Yuri isn't a non shedding breed so she finds a decent amount of it. Usually she just gets clingy poo, but were a couple times as summer hit and Yuri started shedding like crazy she ate enough of it to puke. She didn't really get the hacking hairball thing just hurled, but it seems like they could... |
Yes. Elvis is a cat as far as he is concerned, he licks and grooms himself and yes, he has coughed up some hair before-no not a "hairball" like a cat but he has gottten some hairs down his throat and I think because of the length he coughed them up. Princess eats dental rope and she has puked up a dental rope string ball before... Gross, rare, but true. |
You all might get a laugh like I did I was skimming threads when I saw this one's title I though you were asking if Yorkies get hair on their "balls"!!!! Then I read it all... |
