Thank you guys soooo much for the FAST responses! |
Here is a thread wiht lots of info about coccidia on it.http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=coccidia Almost every puppy has the potential to develop coccidia and stress is a catalyst. It is not the fault of the breeder in most cases. If she is not eating and want me to give you a recipe for syringe feeding zi eould be happy too. They usually lose their appetite with coccidia and you want to avoid dehydration and hypoglycemia with a tiny like Tia. I had this experience with one of mine that I took home at 10 weeks which is why I delayed getting Chai until she was 15 weeks and Ava until she was 12. I like to let the breeder care for them until they are beyond that critical stage. I hope she gets better soon. |
Jenn ~ No info for you, just my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated. Hugs to you and little Tia Rose. |
Jenn: Please keep us informed...I don't have any expertise but I am saying a prayer that your baby feels well soon! |
I have selt with HGE before, it can and does take them done quickly......started throwing up, and then the bloody stool, not want to play, etc...... had to go to the ER over night for fluids. I gave Albon and the Flagyn (sp ) after the release from the vet. I hope all is well. Angie |
Congratulations on your new baby. If she continues to be throwing up and has diarrhea I don't think I would wait till morning to see a vet. They can dehydrate quickly. I hope she gets better soon. |
Jenn, Coccidia is very common in the desert due to the heat(germs stay alive longer) and people not picking up their poop on the sidewalkes from dogs that have this and it is passed on. I personally do not think it is caused by stress but from the breeder or where you picked up the dog. Albon is wonderful and your little one should start getting better fairly fast if they in fact have coccidia. My dogs loved it and would lick it right off of the syringe. It has a bannana smell. This is one of the reasons I stopped walking my dogs in area where alot of other dogs are walked and do not pick up their poop. My friend lives clear across town around the college campus with lots of dogs in the area and her pups got this twice. This is why I don't think it is stress related but disease that is spread from dog to dog. Now this is what is bothering me. Albon is a prescribtion medicine and only a vet may prescibe it. Why would Ivan have this on hand unless he keeps running into pups with it? Where are these pups coming from? I noticed someone else said they got a pup from Ivan and their dog had it also. My vet gave me (I paid for it) a hugh bottle of it because of rescue (dogs coming from the pound) and sometimes a very sick rescue would come in and Albon would work miracles and the bloody, mucus, diarrhea would stop almost right away. I would then do the rice and chicken so nothing is irritating their system. I would also do bottled water for them. Just be sure you clean up her poop very carefully so other animals aren't around it and pass it on. I think of Albon as a mircle med as it works so fast and the dogs liked it. I am glad you are going to the vets as you have a little baby and she should be checked over. I will also be curious if your vet has an opinion of where she got this and what his thoughts are of someone handing Albon out. Good luck and I will be thinking of your Tia Rose. |

Please read this thread for more info. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=coccidia As I recall in this situation Ivan didn't want the puppy to leave this soon...he wanted to keep her while longer. I am sure this is the reason or part of the reason anyway. |

Jen, I prayed for little Tia Rose, please let us know how she is. Hoping to hear some good news, it is a new day. :) |

PLEASE take her in and don't wait. Some people may think this is stress but blood in her stool is NOT GOOD - IF she has coccidia or another parasite - they are usually easily treated - It has nothing to do with how soon you brought her home hon....IF she has coccidia - I have a feeling his other dogs do also. GOOD LUCK Jen - Keep us posted ? |
I posted a new thread called "Update On Tia Rose" V -- thanks for your PM. It was so helpful. :p |
I'm glad she's feeling better and I Did pm you again - We went thru that with Chanel where we thought she was going to be ok - but it was just kind of a remission - then she got worse and of course it was the weekend - so off we went to the ER. I posted again on Tia Roses update thread but still think she needs the vet just to be sure - We want PICTURES of your new baby - I can't wait to see her ~ |
