Yorkies not getting along? Got my second yorkie in December. I had a female and someone didn't want their male anymore so I took him. They both are 1 1/2 yrs and got along great. In the last few wks they starting fighting over toys. I could tell they were jealous of me and when I was giving attention to the other one. Now, they want the same toy or bully stick even though there are two. I have been having to pull them off each other from fighting. They do great eating together and most of the time. Just wondered if anyone else has this problem? |
My will play very rough but don't actually fight. Could they just be playing very rough? |
i try to be sure to always spread the love with my two. punkee princess will get very jealous and steal cedrics toys or bully and like yours they both have there own. they dont actually fight though. some warning growling comes from punkee and at the point i remove all toys and bullys and stat they will have nothing if they cannot get along. i was 15 to 30 minutes and start over. if they continue again they do not get them back for that day. |
No, it's not play. The female I had first really goes after the male when I try to break it up. I know she was here first and very jealous. She won't even let him in our bed at nite. She stands at the top of the steps so he can't get up. He usually just takes the bed in the floor. The other nite I put him in the bed first and she slept in the bed in the floor and has never done that! Strange because they lay side by side all day and eat great together. I don't know what to do. I try to give both the same attention? |
if cedric gets upset with princess coming on the bed which sometimes he does...i pick him up and tell him no growling and put him on the floor. he then comes back up with no issues. i wish i could be of more help. i do wish you luck in finding a good solution. |
If they are viciously fighting you need to put the toys away and just bring them out when you can supervise. If it is play fighting it is normal and its also normal for one to want what the other has |
Ziva (3)can be jealous of Abby (8 months) they do not argue if I am not around, so I am thinking it is over me. As soon as they start -I get up, turn my back and walk out of the room.If it was over a toy I take it away for the rest of the day. They sleep in crates next to each other so I don't have bed territory issues. The less I let them get away with the better they behave.("nothing in life is free" website!) |
I have this same problem with mine. They get mad if they think someone else is getting more attention than them. I watched an episode of the Dog Whisperer that dealt with two dogs that kept fighting like this and he would pull them apart and then hold them by their collars, one in each hand, and make them look at each other until they calmed down. I tried this with mine and it works. |

If you're afraid of injuries, definitely put all toys away and supervise toy time. I had a big problem with that, a dominant male who was beating up a geriatric male just for looking at his toys. I increased exercise, leashed the dominant one during supervised toy time. Eventually, I discovered a toy that the geriatric one liked and the dominant one didn't. Together with the leashed practice and increased exercise, that solved the problem. It resurfaced when we got a female pup, so I went back to leashes and supervised toy time. The female, however, learned her limits. She'll grab any toy she wants and only drop it if the male comes charging. It's a precarious balance sometimes, but it's working. Good luck. |
Well they are really jealous dogs, Prissy doesn't even like for me to talk to other people, now what is up with that? Yoshi just puts up with her. I do hope it gets better with your dogs... :aimeeyork |
