I would still be cautious with a little dog outside and would not want mine out alone. It depends on the predators in your area, but there can definitely be airborne dangers to small dogs as well as things that can scale your fence. If you wanted a doggie door for demand potty, you could also move the kennel inside the fence butted up against the doggie door. Then, your little one/s could go out any time into a covered, safe potty place, and with you later on through your lovely new patio door into your wonderful fenced yard! :D |

The wee house I bought the other year sits on a few acres and while the it's somewhat close to the road, it has a HUGE, DEEP, backyard....and you guessed it had NO way to get to it other than walking out the front door and walking all the way around the house to get to the backyard.....crazy! So I went to home depot, bought a door and got handy with a sawzall one weekend. Here are some pics showing what I did so I had access to my backyard. First pic is the house as I bought it and the other 3 show what I did. And fencing is an issue for me too due to gas line easement, well/well pump, and sewer line all going out the back of the house (not the front, straight to the street as you'd think common sense would dictate ) For now, I'd move the kennel and then look into the cost of fencing. |

My dogs have the side of the house fenced in - about 10' wide and 60' long. 20' is patio block for my clotheslines and 40' is grass. They can't access the waterfront and the big birds there and we don't treat the area with any chemicals/fertilizers.Running the fence on the side of the house cut the cost of fencing in half and made it easy to go in and out. We spend a lot of time out there.I think a side door would be a great add. |

So I am happy to say that after much thought.....we are putting in a whole fence. Lowes is coming tomorrow to install a side door and large wood privacy fence around a lot of our side yard!! The cost was slightly shocking, but I am glad that we are going to do it. It is a good investment for both my son and furbabies. I will definitely post pictures when it is finished! yay! I am excited!!! Next is to look for a new patio set to put out there!!!! |
