How to keep Prissy calm after spaying? She seems to feel fine today but how do I keep her calm? They told me if I wasn't right on top of her to keep her crated? :confused:Is this what you did? She goes back in 10-14 days to have the stitches taken out. I don't want her stitches to tear:( and is it ok to let her in her playpen? I haven't ever dealt with a spaying, Yoshi was neutered 6.5 yrs old and did great. |
I crated Harrison at night and during the day when I had to work, cook or go out, he was placed in his x pen to make sure he did not jump from the bed or the couch, I did the same with Prada when she got spayed. don't forget the onesie or kiss E Collar, to prevent them from licking the insicion.. hugs, |
Thank you Carmen, she is laying here beside me chewing on her bully stick...So the playpen should be fine when I am cooking, cleaning and just getting everything done around here!!! I have always crated her at night and when I go out so that is not a problem..she is wearing a onsie and doesn't seem to mind it at all. They gave me enough pain meds for 3 more days and I give it once a day. |
We didn't crate. We used a lot of chews - so they would be willing to lay around and chew stuff. A Kong would be good for keeping them busy too. I think we hid toys that excited them too - like squeaky balls etc. |
I think keeping them calm is the hardest thing to do!!!! I had my two fluffs done at the same time. I thought that they both would feel so bad , that they wouldn't get too rough with each other. How wrong could I be?? I had to separate them in different x pens and only allow them out, one at time. I was so happy when it was time to get their stitches out, I was overjoyed!!!! |
I didn't have too much problem keeping either of mine calm. They both slept the entire day that they had the surgery and then I just made sure not to allow any playing or running the next day. I would think giving them chews would keep them busy and distracted. Good luck! |
Michelle, you let yours do whatever after the second day? Prissy slept most of yesterday and last night and taking a nap now...I guess I am worried that she will tear her stitches out. |
Mine had free run of the house the day after the spay same with the cats and they did fine they didnt tear out the stitches. They werent as active untill later in the week anyway. i think more risk comes from them chewing on the stitches so thats really what you have to look for |

My vet is saying to keep her crated unless I am right on top of her, yesterday she ran and jumped on the sofa and chair..that is why I called the vet this morning..she is driving me crazy..she acts like she never had surgery. I don't want her stitches to tear open, she doesn't bother them at all. She is miserable and so am I keeping her crated. Please chime in and tell me how you treated yours after spaying, Miss Prissy was spayed Wed and Thursday she was her hyper self. |
Well I just made an executive decision, I am not keeping her crated, she will stay in her playpen...her crate is for night time and for when I leave the house...I don't want her to hate her crate since she has been doing so well with it. I will be so happy when next week is over. |
