| navillusc | 02-29-2012 10:28 AM | I have a PetSafe wireless fence with a 'zapper' collar which I used for a while for my late, 120+ lb Shep/Lab to keep him safely out of a very busy street and away from the meters on the house so the meter readers were not nervous about the presence of my very sweet, tame and loving, but large, black dog. Ziggy wanted to be outside during the day (until a particular thunderstorm!) while we were at work because he was used to that from where he lived before the rescue...but they had lived in a very quiet area and he roamed the streets with the other neighborhood dog friends. I trained him, then Ziggy went through the wireless fence once...and DH called him through it once (yeah, I yelled at him big time for that! :p)...and then would stop at least 10' inside the perimeter afterward! DH tested the collar before the dog ever got near it.
I do not have any use it for my Yorkies, who are, IMHO, too small to be outside unattended.
To me, an "electrified" fence ("e-fence") is the type with the exposed wire like would be used for cattle...I grew up in cattle country...no frikkin way would I ever allow my Yorkies, kitties, or any other animal near that! |
