Scratching Ears We have had Kyra checked for mites and infection in her ears but she continues to scratch her ears alot and shake her little head??? Could it be because she is teething? Her ears look great inside no wax build up and no black wax. I am perplexed could use some advice from all of you who have experience with puppies. |
Yoshi does that when has had red dye 40...he is allergic to it and a lot of dog foods and treats have it in them, not sure that yours an allergic reaction but that is how my boy does. I have to read so many labels.. |
You know, I have noticed Katie Scarlett do this a few times. Her ears are fine. She has checked out good with the vet, we clean them every single night during our nightly grooming. I wonder if she could be allergic to something? I need to have this investigated further too. |
Joel does the same thing, actualy poor thing even kept waking me up last night trying to tell me, he was scratching and shaking a little. But I dont know why, also how do you put the ear cleaner in his ears, he won't let me get near him with it and even of I do he shakes it out immediatley. |
Well every time Yoshi has done this it is allergies...he is allergic to chicken too. So we have stopped giving him any people food except veggies or fruit..there is so much in our food that could be affecting them...We worked with him for 6 years before we figured out what he is allergic to. Also my neighbor was feeding her poodle Kibbles and Bits and the vet said it was the worst for the red dye 40, he told them to read labels and just give her dog food and no people food at all. She was in really bad shape but doing fine now. It is surprising how much red dye 4o is in the dog foods and treats, it supposedly make the beef flavored foods look more like beef. |
Oh no she did get in my bro-in-laws poodles kibbles n bits the other night maybe thats what it is  |
Many dogs don't do well with the red dye, after we took away the red dye treats, he cleared up for awhile and then it started all over again so we had to think what may have set it off and DH had given him some chicken. So no more chicken and he is doing great... If they are itching you can give them a half of a Benedryl once in the morning and once in the evening...well check with your vet first, but that is what I did with Yoshi for awhile and then had to get a prescription for him. I hope this helps.. |
Jimmy does the same thing! Mostly in the morning though. He will sometimes yelp a little too. |
We have 6 dogs and they all have floppy ears so we are always cleaning. Yiou should put the cleaner on a piece of cotton not just pour it in their ear. As for the med you have to hold your hand over the ear until it goes down the ear canal. We have a whole fridge full of ear meds. Although I have to admit our babies are very good about the ear meds and we don't really have a problem. |
My girl used to scratch a lot and the vet determined it was a food allergy. It was so long ago but I believe it may have been food with corn. |
Yes some are allergic to grains too. Yoshi and Prissy both eat Blue and are doing well. |
