I took in a stray I took in a Yorkie that was wondering around my parents home on Wednesday.(With no collar) They live down a dead end street with a few houses on it, he doesn't belong to anyone there. I placed an ad in the newspaper, but no one has called about him. So I brought him to the vet today to have him checked out, he is between 6-8 years old, weighs 11.2 lbs, developing cataracts, numerous (small) sebaceous cysts and has a level 2 heart murmur. His back legs are not very strong and he can not jump up. He tested neg. for diabetes and heart worms.(Thank God) I started him on Heart Guard and is on antibiotics just in case it is a heart valve infection. He goes back in 2 weeks for a check up and if all is well he will be getting all of the needed vaccinations and scheduling his neutering.(Unless he is claimed by then) He is a very good dog, very well behaved and trained. He has never barked for any reason or had an accident in the house. He was someone's pet and I can not believe no one misses him. I am thinking that he was dropped off because of his health problems. I have named him San-Dee because he is blonde with a little grey. My two boys do not usually accept new dogs very easily, but they seem to like him already. They are all at the foot of the bed sleeping. I thought that my husband would have a fit, but he seems to love him also. He was in Houston when I told him that we had a house guest, which will probably be a new family member. Please keep San-Dee in your thoughts and prayers. |
Oh, bless him! How does he act? Does he seem depressed? Does he seem to miss his family or not? If someone dumped him, they oughta be $*#! :( |
We live in the semi-country near a highway. I sometimes think dogs get lost going potty and wander over. I have taken in many a scraggly dog that fed up into a beautiful dog (which I would find a new home for). Just let your local pound and vets know and if anyone has lost him, they will call there, hopefully. Otherwise, enjoy your new pup, cause Yorkies ARE the BEST! |
He is very quiet. Until this morning he would put his head down when I would go to pet him. I noticed this evening that his ears are starting to go up a little more. I am sure he misses his family, regardless the of the reason he was wondering alone. I just hope I make difference (for the better) in his life. He seems to be adapting to our home very well. I feel the same as you about people that drop their pets off. Thanks for your reply and thoughts. |
I cannot imagine why no one is looking for him!!! Whatever the case, I am SOOOOo glad you found him and took him in with such love and concern!!!! What are the odds of you finding a yorkie wondering around on the street when you already have two yorkies of your own!?!? I think everything happens for a reason....maybe that yorkie needed the love that you and your family can provide in his last years and it was no accident that he found you :) I believe everything happens for a reason. May God bless you and your husband for taking him in :) |
God bless you for taking that yorkie into your home and keeping him safe...If his owner's really abandoned him, it sounds like you'll have a wonderful addition to your family. :) |
THank you thankyou thank you for taking him in. It upsets me that there are so many strays and it just makes me feel better when there are people like you who will take in a stray and make them a part of your family! If you get a chance, please post some pics, I'm sure everyone would like to see the new addition. James |
Gayle, Some members might disagree with me but from the shape of this dog I would STOP immediately looking for this dogs owner. I am sorry but I have very strong views about taking on the responsibilities of a dog and some of these responsibilities cost money. It appears that this little guy has some issues that were not taken care of even if his owners loved him. Dog ownership is more than just about love as you well know. I suspect very strongly that they did dump him which is just about the cruelest thing you can do to a Yorkie. I think it is more humane to take them to the pound rather than just dumping them and they were cowards if that is what they did  It sounds to me that you have done more for this dog in the short period that you have had him and it sounds like he is happy with your gang. Not everyone deserves a dog if they cannot take care of it. Good Luck with your new addition :D |
That was very kind of you to take him in AND take him to the vet. I do hope that someone isn't out there heart broken that they can't find their dog. On the other hand, I am so happy that he is with you and being treated like a family memeber. All you have to do is go online and type in "lost Yorkie" or "found Yorkie" to find out that it happens all to often. Wishing you and San-Dee much MUCH happiness! :) |
I'm so happy to hear stories like this one, San-Dee has found a home where he will be loved and cared for. :) |
Gayle~ That is so wonderful. Poor old guy......he sounds like he needs some love and attention. |
I am very glad you took him home with you . |
Gayle, you have a special big heart and your care and love will be repaid many times over. You will certainly make a difference in his life... |
Gayle, I hate to judge anyone without knowing the facts, but it does sound as if he might have been dumped because of his health issues. Sometimes people just can't afford the vet bills. Maybe they saw your Yorkies at some time and thought you would do as you did and take him in. Whatever the reason, I think Cindy may be right and you should stop worrying about his former owners and just love this little one and give him the care he deserves. You are a wonderful person to take on what is essentially someone else's responsibility, and I'm sure you will be rewarded for it one day. |
Poor baby! It's so sweet of you to take him in :) Rescue babies are always so appreciative don't you think? Never demanding anything, such sweeties! Good luck with San-dee. Keep us updated, and we'd love to see pics :p |
