Why do some breeders lie? I looked at many yorkies before I bought mine. Some (not all) would actually lie about how much their yorkies or the puppies weigh. One lady told us that the female was 6 pounds and the male was 4. We got their to look and the female must have been 12 to 14 lbs. The male was about 10. I held them. I don't care if yorkies are larger than Show yorkies, I want a pet who's healthy. What's a couple of pounds anyway? Has anyone else had this experience? |
lying MONEY...people lie when money is on the line. And some decieve themselves into thinking small..or they haven't weighed them since 6 months of age. When I first started I would take a baby scale with me and weigh the parents and pups. I have a tiny male at bit over 2 pounds...also had a grooming client who used to insist my scales were wrong. According to her, her male was 1 1/2 pounds. He was actually 4 pounds on the scale...she did not believe me until I showed her my small male...he was half the size of hers and she realized if hers was 1 1/2 pounds as she thought then my boy had to be about 6 oz..LOL |
Oh my I would have left once I saw the dame/sire being different that expected. Any breeder that tells you such a fabrication ask her to weigh the adult or puppy in front of you. I have a scale and if any buyer wanted to see that days weight of the puppies or adults I would accomodate their request without being offended. Money or better said GREED is their motivation knowing the smaller the dog the easier the sell generally and smaller is the demand. Most people buying a yorkie are searching for the 5 lb dog more or less not a 12 lb. BUT... a yorkie that is 10 lbs or 4 lbs as adult doesnt guarantee it is healthy. My female was 4.5 lbs before giving birth and now is a wopping 5.01 lbs and my male was 5.5 lbs and now is 5.10 lbs I attibute the weight gain to the food I have them on (royal canin baby puppy food until last week) the adults wouldnt stay out of the baby puppy food and now they are eating Royal Canin puppy food. Once all the puppies leave I am sure they will eat less and will be give Royal Canin Yorkie food, but I dont mind the added weight. My puppies weight at 11 weeks 3 days are 2.0, 2.25, 2.3 and 2.54....they are very healthy, spoiled wonderful little creatures:) and adult size should be 4-5 lbs. |
I found where the deceit usually exists is claiming puppies are going to be smaller adults than they actually are. I quess thats because so many people want small dogs. I am like you I will just be happy if my puppy ends up being happy and healthy. The way he is growing (he has a very round belly and eats well) I anticipate he will be at least a lb more than the breeder said he would. Oh well I love him bunches and wouldn't trade him for the world. |
not that there is anything wrong with one weighing that amount but my concern is the lying. If they are going to lie to you about something as simple as that I wouldn't trust them on other issues. Also if you have your heart set on one that is within the standard be patient and wait until you find a pup with parents that look like what your expectations are. I wanted a female within the range of 5-7 lbs, I wanted a good silky coat and I knew if I ended up with something different, I would have continued to have this picture in my mind and still longing for the type I had my heart set on. One of the main things that attracted me to the breed in the first place was the appearance. Thats why finding a breeder whom produced pups that were within standard was very important to me. Good luck. |
why do some breeders lie???/ simple, BECAUSE THEY CAN...... honestly i would have walked away, if they are lieing about the weight imagin what else they are lieing about!!!1  |
I think it needs to be mentioned that most breeders are honest people who love yorkies and thats why they breed. I honestly don't know how they make a profit when you figure time and money and the small litters that are produced. It's the breeders who are a little shady that usually get discussed by us pet folks. I think theres a wealth of knowlege on this forum for someone who is looking to buy a yorkie. I wish I would have found this forum when I was in the looking stage. |
Makes ya mad doesnt it! My hubby once drove 4 hours to a ladies house who I had corresponded with several times. She knew I was not interested in a yorkie female larger then 7 lbs, I had two females and still do who are over the standard and I didnt want another as large. Her response "Oh yes she is 7 lbs or less" Guess what? The dog was almost 13 lbs when my hubby got there!!!!!!!!!! He was mad at me, at her, and 4 hours drive time wasted. (total of 8) |
Luvdorkyyorkies- I wish I would have known about your puppies before I made my purchase. I purchased a brother and sister. I don't have the girl yet because she is small. Anyway you seem like such a genuine person who so cares about yorkies. I am in Indiana and If I get any inquiries from people on yorkies I will refer them to you if thats ok. I hope you find homes for all your puppies soon. |
How frustrating!!! I have run into it soooo much!!! I feel as if they should pay me for wasting my time. I wouldn't call for a $2600.00 yorkie because I was only willing to pay $1000.00. They lie about papers, size, anything they can  |
The lady i got Pita from told me that you can register ACA dogs with the AKC it's just a matter of money. I don't really care that much but I found out of course it wasn't true. She did let me know about Pita's kennel cough and actually wasn't even going to show her to me because of it but I wanted to see her and decided she was worth dealing with the kennel cough, I also had 48 hours to get her checked by my vet. But the point is, there was no reason to lie, she also told me she had her to the vet for the cough but when i called back to get the documentation she only had shot records! I love Pita and she's healthy so far but why lie??? |
because they are stupid! SERIOUSLY! They want to rip people off! |
Simple as A B C , it is for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ |
